Always thought the light was there for security purposes as well alley lights are usually requested to be installed. if all the neighbors are on board, then I am sure Dominion or the city would remove the light.

Motion sensors don't work on HPS fixtures.They take too long to ramp up when they cycle on, and I don't think the City is installing LED street lamps yet, which are instant on (it is RVA so we have to be 10 years behind the curve!). Perhaps a better solution would be a lower wattage fixture. Look at the orange tag on the bottom of the cobra head. If the number is a 25, then it's a 250 watt HPS lamp. That could be replaced with a 150 watt lamp (the number would be a 15 on the sticker) which would be less bright. If it's already a 150 watt, then a cutoff shield might help.

This light was requested by someone in the block. The alley light was placed there for public safety issues. The light is suppose to work from dusk til dawn. We do not have lights working on a motion sensor. This light is working properly and will not be removed for safety issues. Thanks for helping us make a better RVA!
