How is this tree a hazard? Residents are not educated enough to determine if a tree is a hazard. Only certified arborists are able to make that determination. I hope the city will take action to protect the tree and not just cut a tree down because an uneducated resident says it should be cut down. We need the trees in this neighborhood to cool down our area in the summer and to clean our air and water. Trees are necessary and not disposable. They should be valued and protected.

The tree on the side of the building does appear to have a large cavity. If that is the case, it is a potential hazard, but it may not necessitate removal as often pruning can solve the problem. I will have it inspected shortly to determine the next course of action to be taken.

Hello. Who inspected it, what was their evaluation tool, and level of education and licensure? What was the result of the person's (hopefully licensed and professional arborist) assessment? Did someone actually get out to look at it or was is just added to the 3000+ Newark tree removal list (that should be made public) without inspection? I would definitely like to hear back with answers to these questions. BTW there are trees that are 100% dead on E. Kinney Street that have yet to be removed and were reported to Ms. Washington years ago, so again, I am unsure why trees that are still alive and not a hazard of falling tomorrow are prioritized to be cut down over trees that are dead and pose more of a hazard?

Liz, I am performing the inspections currently. I have a bachelors and a masters in ecology, with a focus on urban ecology. I am a certified arborist by the International Society of Arboriculture, and have also been TRAQ certified by the same. I've also had about 15 years experience in this field. It is no longer policy to remove a tree if it is simply in poor condition, but only if it poses an imminent hazard. As for the tree list, a large amount of the trees marked for removal have been switched to pruning that should correct any issues within the canopy.
