Description

Major potholes on Avon Street street -- these need to be filled but Avon also needs a total resurfacing of the pavement. Although we (and other neighbors) report potholes (and had them filled in the summer, fall and in late January), the condition of the road is so poor, that the patchwork cannot hold and always opens again.
Avon Street, while a short road, is a major cut-through street (from Lynn Fells Parkway, to Elm, to Avon, to Green and in the reverse order) and provides drivers with a method of avoiding a light. (Wear and tear on Elm Street from Lynn Fells and through to Avon Street tells the story of the traffic pattern). There is significant traffic particularly in the school rush each weekday morning. There is also significant pedestrian traffic, particularly of school children at both morning and afternoon. Driving conditions are made hazardous on this short street with cars zigzagging to avoid the ruptures in the road.
There is no drainage on Avon Street: thus, you will note that the pavement sags in the middle. The sidewalks are in terrible condition on half the street as well, and, with rain, a significant portion of the street is underwater. Loose gravel covers the road.Surely anyone can see that the deterioration of the road is so bad, sales of houses here would certainly be difficult. Our car repair bills—new tires, alignments, wheel sensors, etc.—are likely the result of getting into our own driveway.
The road needs resurfacing on Avon Street, not patch and repair of potholes many feet across. I ask for your help in solving this long time problem, and ask for intervention with getting Avon Street on the list of roads to be completely rehabbed and repaved. We are mindful of all the repair work needed in this city after a rough winter, and must still maintain that Avon Street needs attention.
