These are rats. It's hard to tell scale from this picture, but I've seen these critters and they are most certainly rats. They are about the size of small Guinea Pigs and there must be a huge colony. This is a major health hazard!
The rats seem to be getting larger and this AM were up on the edge of the sidewalk where many people walk/jog/walk dogs. It's really escalating quickly. One rat I saw was the biggest I've ever seen.
Thanks for reporting! We are aware of this issue and are reaching out to Fish and Game as well as the Yacht Club to see what options there are to minimize the impact of these animals. This area is a natural habitat that is home to many animals, and their proximity to the water with its extremely low tide makes it a prime location for them to live.
In the meantime, residents can help do their part by not littering or feeding the birds.
