I was just informed today by my neighbors of the response from the Sound School related to a phone call to them about the nuisance the alarm going off erroneously has become. First, the call was placed to the Principal. At least according to my neighbor..The Principal chose not to respond but instead had the Vice Principal handle the matter? Second, according to my neighbor she was told the Sound School was aware of the issue, it was being worked on, and there was nothing that could be done in the meantime. Really?! Unacceptable if this is true!.. Someone asked if the BOE gets fined. Not sure if it applies to schools. However, if this were a business some alarm companies allow 2 false alarms per year. After that there is a heafty penalty to the alarm company if theproblem is related to something the business did. If it is a faulty alarm and the police come out and/or FD then the city fines the business. Why doesn't the Sound School designate someone that works for the school who lives locally to be on-call for false alarms and to show up and turn the darn thing off until it gets fixed?! Instead the police and fire dept both show up; at this point it is costing the tax payers money. On one occasion they left with the alarm still blaring. On another occasion, they left only to have it go off again 15 minutes later. When the alarm goes off..lights are flashing noise is blaring and this has continued for several hours with no one from the Sound School and/or alarm company coming out to shut it off. I think the Sound School forgets that years ago the neighborhood as a show of good faith agreed not to oppose the school turning into a regional school. The residents of South Water Street would like to request a show of good faith and little bit more respect from Sound School Administration. As we have heard from their Principal on several occasions related to issues between the neighborhood and school..I will paraphrase because I do not recall the exact quote and do not want to misquote anyone.. but it went something like ..we are all neighbors and need to learn to peacefully co-exist. Keyword there? Peacefully..I think taking care of a faulty alarm blaring away at 12am or 2am or whenever would fall under that co-exist peacefully phrase.
