The property owner at this address has taken a permit for the removal of two oil tanks located beneath the sidewalk. They have also secured Resolution #2014-611, by the Mayor and Council, for the encroachment onto (and closure of) the sidewalk for purposes of accomplishing the removal. Since then, the tanks have been removed and have been found to be leaking. Environmental remediation is now required and the sidewalk will be re-opened when all of the work has been completed and the permits are closed.

The Resolution required the work to be done within 7 working days!!!!

State law allows for the permit to be valid for the duration of the project. Upon removal of the tanks, leakage and contamination were found that require remediation. Unfortunately, the sidewalks will not be replaced, just to be removed again to accomplish the remediation of the contaminated soil. Once all of the underground work has been completed, the sidewalk will be replaced.

I know, from experience, that it takes about that long or longer to get an all clear letter from the State, which is needed when contaminated soil is removed. I would think the homeowner, should get follow up with the State to get the all clear letter, especially since the public access is denied.

If the sidewalk from building to curb is blocked off the spots in front of the fence should be blocked off for a safe passage for pedestrians.
