  Neenan,

  I'm happy to report that this issue is likely permanently resolved. What you were actually hearing was a siren and loudspeaker that is part of a new security system that was installed as a pilot project in the Walker Avenue parking lot just off Grand. Over time, in direct response to neighbors' complaints they've reduced the number of decibels substantially. The jury is out regarding whether or not, the system will actually reduce the frequency of car break-ins.

  I’m going to add this broadcast CAN’T be coming from Walker/Grand. The broadcasts continue and the origin has to be the Walgreens/TJ lot. Oakland! We have a noise ordinance! Shut this stuff DOWN. A corporation doesn’t get a pass. If they have criminal activity concerns, hire live security to patrol either on foot or in cars. You expose an entire neighborhood to interrupted sleep with the repetitive Big Brother broadcasts, sometimes 20x a night. Unacceptable. It’s not healthy and it’s unwelcome

  Neenan, With apologies for not realizing that a security system was installed at Walgreens at about the same time as the Walker parking lot. The latter has turned down the volume and reduced the hours in response to community complaints. Walgreens should definitely do the same and you might try calling their corporate office.

  No need to apologise Ken. I can’t think the more proximal neighbors haven’t spoken up. I’ll be following up with the Walgreens upper ups. As if there wasn’t enough noise pollution here in the neighborhood.
