Description
Noise Complaint, violation of the City of Oaklands noise ordinance ~3 weeks ago, I began to hear PA style broadcasted messages coming from the vicinity of the Walgreens on Lakeshore Avenue They appear to be security based messages, and possibly triggered by passing vehicles or foot-traffic I am a few blocks from this business, and the messages come in, unintelligible, but audible, even behind secured, double-paned windows This is an outright violation of the CofO's noise ordinance, and extremely disruptive to healthy sleep, for everyone who isn't deaf, in the neighborhood Walgreens needs to cease and desist this immediately If they have security concerns or issues, let them hire private security patrols or OPD officers. To expose an entire area to 'Big Brother-esque' messaging, at all hours, is just patently UNACCEPTABLE

Neenan,
I'm happy to report that this issue is likely permanently resolved. What you were actually hearing was a siren and loudspeaker that is part of a new security system that was installed as a pilot project in the Walker Avenue parking lot just off Grand. Over time, in direct response to neighbors' complaints they've reduced the number of decibels substantially. The jury is out regarding whether or not, the system will actually reduce the frequency of car break-ins.
