What is the City of St. Pete's plan for the rapidly expanding hydrilla problem in Crescent Lake? At present, it appears that roughly 35-40% of the total surface area of the lake has been overtaken. Clearly this is a byproduct of the lake's low-lying area (e.g. all surface chemicals are running into the lake from the surrounding neighborhoods) so the nitrogen levels in this lake are likely quite high. But the lake appears to be in danger of being completely overtaken

Please, please don’t spray the lake perimeter with herbicide like was done a month or so ago.
The smell of the rotting vegetation is very bad for a day or two, plus the brown bank is not a very good look.

Thank you all for reaching out and sharing your concerns. All chemical vegetation control products used by this department are approved by the US Department of Environmental Protection, and they are applied by employees who have been trained and accredited in this process by the Florida Department of Agriculture. These chemicals pose no risk to humans or wildlife.
The method of removing vegetation is determined by several factors including the size of the water body, its location and jurisdiction, the density and type of vegetation, and the resources available to department staff. In this instance, we won't be directly addressing the overgrowth at Crescent Lake. Instead, we have retained the services of a private third-part firm that is slated to begin work on-or-about 8 September 2023.
I'm going to close this request as we already have a plan in place to address the specific issue, but please feel free to contact me directly should you have any additional comments or concerns regarding Crescent Lake or it's treatment.
