I am very familiar with the street and would like to set the record straight. The small, civic-minded developer (who is doing an amazing and environmentally friendly job of renovating the school) also owns only 3 or 4 houses of the 15 houses/townhouses on Little Nash. That developer's company fixes things up beautifully and then sells them. 1 house & 2 townhouses are owned (or prior to foreclosure were owned) by the owner of #17. There may be one other person who owns 2 houses but last time I checked all of the other properties were individually owned.
Having bought and sold houses nearby, I am confident that neither the Housing authority nor the court mandates x number of HUD/Section 8 housing units but if there is such a law on the books, please cite it here since Click Fix offers a great education in how cities work.
I agree with you Joseph, we should fight blight together and hope that you will join us in watching 17 after the windows get boarded up tomorrow. Please call the police when you see people coming and going. Thanks also for the interesting fact that -was it #23??- fueled the start of LCI. After what Little Nash Street has been through, I'm gaining respect and admiration for LCI and Building Inspectors and Lt. R's work at the NHPD.

When the Elm Haven Housing Projects was torn down there was an actual courtroom decision that ordered the city to have involvement in HUD and section 8 housing.It was quite a few years ago and i don't recall the details but it's a definite.The local developer from i've seen in real estate transactions does not just flip his properties,most of them are still in his possesion - did he/she flip this #17

Joseph, interesting re: Elm Haven , wonder if it was a law or a one-time ruling......the developer has never owned #17.

The slumlord/owner of 17 Nash, last name Gyamfi, also owns other rundown and neglected properties on Nash St. and in New Haven. 30 Nash St., also a rundown, neglected property, was owned by Gyamfi; however, the property was foreclosed on and it is now owned by Bank of New York Mellon Trust. Regarding Elm Haven housing project, the city was obligated to find housing for the former tenants, which explains why the area roughly bordered by the Boulevard, Whalley and Blake St. was pretty much ruined by an influx of Section 8 profiteers and people with major social issues.

I wonder what year these purchases by Gyamfi transpired ? Curious to know who sold Gyamfi that home ? I also wonder if someone thinks the Elm Haven ruling was meant to sustain the x number of Section 8 and other subsid. ,maybe twisting or misinterpreting the law ? Why would this developer travel from parts far removed to rehab an abode in the middle of grad ghetto but rent to section 8 ? NOBODY around there has a problem finding post docs,grad students etc. to rent out to !! ..I can only guess, i know they want a tight real estate market and keep the market value for rents high,therefore maintaining a higher tax appraisal..The grads mail the check the same as section 8 does , only issue would then be that students have a high turnover and the security deposit issue would be a pain in the ...

Gyamfi seems to have moved the trespassers from 17 Nash Street into # 28 Nash Street. This is very troubling as one of them has, in the past, been jailed for violent behavior. Before he lived in # 17 Nash Street, this individual also lived in #30, in an apartment which was left in extremely poor condition.

LCI will soon board up the side yards that allow anybody to sneak into the condemned house.

Moving forward, we all need to keep in mind that people who trespass in empty houses sometimes do so with a malicious intent. They can pose a serious danger to a community and to themselves.
When ANYONE, even the landlord sets foot on a condemned property, unless that person is accompanied by a policeman or a person wearing an LCI sweatshirt, they are breaking the law and should be reported to the police without a second's delay. Don't wait, please dial 911 and please keep your eyes on #17 Nash Street as well as the silver auto with white "flame" decals and loud music that some of the trespassers sometimes use.

PS. Don't be deceived. One of the trespassers has a vest that says "Security" . It has some florescent orange and yellow trim.

28 Nash is also in the beginning stage of foreclosure.
Gyamfi appears to be a serial defaulter and a non-payer of water/sewer bills - a leech on society.
Makes one wonder who is giving the Gyamfis mortgages and why?
