Description
I am happy to see the city is replacing non ADA compliant crosswalk entry points throughout the Museum District; however, the ones at the intersection of Ellwood and Nansemond were not properly completed.
The handicap accessible ramps from the sidewalk into the crosswalk are not properly placed. According to the ADA, curb ramps and the flared sides of curb ramps shall be located so that they do not project into vehicular traffic lanes, parking spaces, or parking access aisles. This is is NOT the case for this intersection. Plus, I am unsure why this is the only intersection in the Museum District to not be properly modified as the other areas have the proper diagonal or corner type curb ramps. These particular ramps force pedestrians into the lane of moving traffic to cross, not the stopped traffic lane...very dangerous.
There is also a large hole at the NW corner of this intersection and this hole makes the crosswalk ramp useless to those in wheelchairs or with strollers. (this photo is in the comments section as I was only allowed one attached image)
Please correct this intersection and make it safe for pedestrians.

Could the City of Richmond at least cover the hole with a steel plate?
Try and do something temporarily to make the area safer. Or bring some ideas to the table, but to do nothing is reckless and dangerous. I'm sure if the City's legal department knew of this lingering issue, they would do something to lower their liability exposure.
