Thanks, they're not strays, they have collars on. The law says cats can roam and do as much damage as they want, and no one is responsible. Dogs are regulated. There is nothing I can do legally to keep the cats out, I tried the stuff from the ag. store, and it doesn't work. I have two cats, they have Always been indoor cats. It's stupid to let cats roam. Cars, kids, dogs, and now hawks can all be bad for a cat outdoors. I think it's irresponsible cat owners.

I agree. I have cats using my flower beds as litter boxes. I spent a good amount of money on my bushes, trees, flowers, and mulch to make my outdoor living experience pleasant. When you complain about the destruction these outdoor cats are doing you end up getting told to put moth balls, or sprays down to deter them. It's very frustrating, especially when my dogs aren't allowed to roam. Not to mention I have scratches all over the top of my car due to the cats always climbing all over it... but who's responsible? People need to keep their cats indoors...

My whole back yard smells of cat pee. My house is being stained by cat urine from male cats marking their territory. I've stopped feeding the birds. I spray the back yard with the stuff that is supposed to repel cats and dogs. It's not working. City of Meriden, Please do something about the cats!

Kim and Crystalw if you know were they live leave a note complaning, if it dont work get some coyote pee .at greenbackers in meriden feed.it worked for my friend, only if you do not have a dog or cat yourself..put in spray bottle.use on plants and around out side only of house.will smell bad for a day or two but works for few weeks spray again..good luck.

@Sunshine girl, thank you for the advice but I actually have coyotes running around the perimeter of where my dogs pee ( I haven't seen them cross the scent line) but the cats seem to have a peeing war going on with my dogs.) I said something to the owners of the cats about seeing them on my car and they tell me it cant be their cats because their cats don't use their nails. My personal opinion is if my dogs are not allowed to roam then cats shouldn't be either, keep them indoors. I love all animals but its beyond frustrating.

when i lived near platt high school we had coyotes and they would pee on are back fence and my cat and dogs would not go back there for a week.maybe if you call greenbackers they can tell you what else will work sorry it must be crazy haveing to deal with it.we have a lot of strays that come in my yard to.some times i trap them and bring to other shelters so they dont bring them back like meriden does.thhey fix and relase back some times we got two back and @#$% me off that they bring tem back.

No, there are still too many cats, and I haven't fed the birds since August. The cats are still all over the place. I wish Meriden had a leash law for cats as we do for dogs. But the money isn't in the budget, and the political will isn't there. Too many other more important things happening, Kids getting killed, downtown being redone.

STILL too many cats!! Big white with charcoal spots fuzzy, another one orange, another black cat, and nothing I've tried, in 2 years, will keep them away. The trap is looking more and more tempting.

I don't live near you but agree and feel your pain. Cats should indeed be subject to the same laws that dogs are. But unfortunately you can't legislate making their supposed owners care about them.

Last week, your long haired white, with dark gray patches, collar, came very close to catching a cardinal in my back yard. Keep the darned thing home!!!!

Call humane society. tell them there are feral cats in your backyard.

Humane Society doesn't care. It can barely keep up with the cats it has. I tried 2 YEARS ago to involve the Humane Society. These are people's cats, that are allowed to roam.

Yes, humane society is overloaded. Is it at all possible to trap them and relocate them elsewhere- or to a society that has room (few do!) If you decide to trap and have success, let me know how you did it.

If there are feral cats in the neighborhood, try contacting T.E.A.M. (Tait's Every Animal Matters). I believe they can trap and spay/neuter feral cats. They also do low cost spaying and neutering for cats that have a home. The cat that kimwim saw may have been neutered, but there probably are a few cats in the neighborhood that still need to be spayed or neutered. That will probably help with the feline overpopulation problem in the neighborhood. It may not make a difference immediately, but in the long run it should help. http://www.everyanimalmatters.org

Your damned cat just killed the baby rabbit that I've been watching grow in my garden. I don't want it spayed, neutered, I want them trapped, and euthanized. I want them DEAD

cats. Australia has the right idea. The original cats are dead. or at least the owners have gotten the good sense of keeping them inside. But there are new ones now. A calico. And a tiger cat. And they think my yard is their domain. I"ve tried moth balls, and cedar chips, and coyote urine. And a hose with a sensor. I can't afford to fence it in. I contacted T.E.A.M. They won't come up to Meriden.

Needs to do something about outdoor cats allowed to roam. There is mo way to keep them out of places where they don't beling. Trapping and removal is the only way.
