Description
The Old West Side Fence Design Guidelines must be enforced fairly and uniformly. About a decade the Ann Arbor Historic District Commission's verdict: was that a wooden post & rail fence had to be removed by the owners living at 617 W. Madison Street. There is a non-Conforming chain-linked fence installed in the front yard of 526 South Ashley right next to the front sidewalk. It also extends on the side yard before transitioning to a chicken-wire fence. According to the historic district design guidelines Ann Arbor follows, when installing fencing it's appropriate to use wood (either picket or alternating board), wrought-iron or metal (wrought-iron style) or but chain link fences can ONLY be used in the rear yard. There are only other 2 houses in the OWS with similar chain link fences in the front yard at the sidewalk that have also been reported to Ann Arbor Fixit a while ago. Those two non-conforming chain link fences (one on same block of Ashley and the other on corner of W. William & S. Second) also must be taken down promptly. Thank you.
