Description
7am this morning. Kid coming down the hill towards the train station in the middle of the road on Myrtle on a skateboard. Have to drive to the other side of the road to avoid him. Come down to the stoplight and there is a cop setting up roadwork signs. He's far ahead of the kid. I beep the horn and point at the kid, asking him to get out on the road and stop him. HE LOOKS AT THE KID, SHAKES HIS HEAD AND SHRUGS.! The kid goes right by him IN THE ROAD...AND HE DOES NOTHING.
I roll the window down and yell "Officer, the last time I looked, a skateboard is not a motor vehicle, and does not belong in the road!". He continues to look at me and shrug.
Honestly, what hope is there for the people in the city if our police won't enforce the laws! No wonder why Hartford has the reputation it does.

Actually, it is legal for skateboards to be on the sidewalks and streets in Hartford. The antiquated ordinance from 1977 that banned them was repealed in 2010. It is a form of transportation. Other forms of non-motorized transportation allowed on streets: bicycles.
Does the right to use the street give someone license to be an idiot? No. Obviously not. But we see motorists behave like entitled fools every day.
