This portion of Clement, because it is between Park Street and Tilden, acts as a cut-through for people trying to sneak around traffic / get off the island quickly. Drivers regularly grossly exceed the speed limit, meanwhile, people cross mid-block and do U-turns mid-block and with no protected crossings to get to and from workouts, martial arts class picks up/drop offs, and access and other commercial facilities that have replaced the traditional industrial and automotive uses of this area. Lanes on either side of the double – double yellow center median striping are overly wide, encouraging vehicles to drive too quickly. Traffic safety improvements and traffic calming measures are badly needed in this area. Suggest narrowing the travel lanes, widening sidewalks, and delineating shoulders between travel lanes and parking spaces with white diagonal stripes. Remove the center double – double yellow striped area, which does not do a good job of encouraging drivers to slow down, nor does it prevent them from crossing the median.
