Wow! I have complained to the safety officer about this very problem as well as Hancock St and Pine St. I plowed sidewalks for 12 years for the town and these two locations, as well as many others, were never corrected.

I'm not sure why it's such a struggle to get the parking on the sidewalk law enforced. It's pretty much a no-brainer. I would think that the liability involved in allowing this, once the town is aware, would be enough to have them take action.

The parking problem at the corner of Pine Handcock seems to have been resolved. After weeks of posting here, the residents are not parking on the sidewalk anymore. I'm sure the town will take corrective action here also.

Good to hear. I use to walk Pine St every day and had to walk in the street to get around the cars. I was always concerned a child might get hurt there. Kudos

It is common for cars all over town to park on and block sidewalks without any fear of getting a ticket. When I walk around town I see it everyday. It would be nice if the Police took an initiative to crack down on this so the citizens who pay taxes for these sidewalks can have use of them with having to constantly point it out. Parking on the sidewalk should be the exception, not the rule.

Steve I was once told by a police officer they have to receive a complaint to issue a ticket. Where's the logic? Hello it's the law!

Are you saying that if the police see a car completely blocking the sidewalk forcing people into the street, they can't ticket it unless someone says something? How about if someone gets hit? Can they give a ticket then? Where can I get a list of laws that are ok break as long as no one complains?

I would assume it would depend on the particular officer, but as a person who works and lives in Stoneham many turn a blind eye.

First of all let me say I have total respect for the Stoneham Police Department. They can not be everywhere all the time and see everything. They depend on the input of the public to help maintain order.

However this issue seems to show a disregard for the safety of pedestrians, be it intentional or unintentional.

This location is a major intersection one block from the square and one block from the Police Station. It has pedestrian lights and a crosswalk leading right to the cars blocking the sidewalk. This is also a common problem on many side streets around town.

I'd like to think that this is not a case of deliberately "turning a blind eye" as much as it is losing perspective as to how much of a problem this is. It would be nice if the Police would re-evaluate this problem and start issuing tickets when they see a violation instead of waiting until someone has to complain.

I drove by that corner today. It is a pretty obvious violation of the towns parking laws. I can't imagine there would be any excuse for the Police not to enforce the law.

Two an a half weeks later and still the violation goes on. Any help from the Police here. PLEASE!

This was issued to the Police Department on 10-31. No acknowledgment from them and no corrective action. What are we missing here??

Go see the Town Administrator or the Selectmen.

Issue was originally sent to DPW, reassigned, closed, reopened. Any one of these actions may be preventing notification e-mails from being sent to the Police Department. This problem was brought up in the past. Calling the Police non-emergency line (781-438-1215) would ensure they are notified.

The police department has contacted the property owner advising tenant vehicles should not be parked blocking the town sidewalk. Vehicles parked in violation are subject to a fine.

Thank you. Is there any chance we can get those illegal parking lines removed or covered over?
Someone not familiar with the area visiting a local business, may mistake lines painted on public property to indicate legitimate public parking. This may also help indicate to the property owners that this violation is to be taken seriously.

Over 1 month later and no changes or enforcement at this location. A complete disrespect for law enforcement.

The police politely ask and the violators politely refuse. It's no wonder they are so much parking violations around town. Not a lot of respect being shown towards the Police.

Cars still parked there today. It's unbelievable we can't get support from the town on this safety issue!

Thats funny i just spoke to the safety officer and he states u never have contacted him! I even gave him your name. He says to call the police department rather than typing. They will be happy to tag amd tow if necessary hes been towing cars all night according to him!

Since this issue was reported, the police department has responded to this location and issued parking violation notices where appropriate. The property owner was working with their tenants to keep vehicles from the sidewalk. Violators will continue to receive violation notices..

That is funny! Ask him how many people got citations today because the police were contacted quite a bit.

4 citations and 4 towed vehicles! Why don't you just go and see for yourself! He says you can fill out a public records request if you would like hard evidence!!
