Description

More than 4 SHU students at this address.

Sacred Heart students have returned for the Fall session and we already have multiple parties this weekend in residential areas, blocking the residential neighborhood streets with traffic, cars blocking fire hydrants, blocking street corners, and walking in the streets during daylight like it’s some type of block party. These are residential areas, not Sacred Heart dorms. Calling the police is not helpful because they don’t have enough staff to support these calls, as there are more important things to tend to. Why are the police such-short staffed? A big City like Bridgeport needs to have available resources. Since students returned, the traffic has increased two fold and they are speeding through the streets, neglecting stop signs. And of course, there are more than 4 non-related parties living in rentals, which equates to many more cars in one household that are not paying property taxes on vehicles. They clog up the streets, park in the wrong direction, and park halfway in the street at times during normal days, not just during parties. Why do we, the tax paying residents of Bridgeport, have to put up with this?
Why can’t the City of Bridgeport enforce the zoning for these houses? Hire more individuals for these jobs and start to do something about it. There are so many residents that have gotten fed up and left the City only to have the house flipped for college students. Don’t you see this happening in front of your eyes? Because the North End certain does! Perhaps you should spent some time in the North End and see what the real issues are. Would you like living next door to these houses? Probably not but you do nothing to help the residents. And the excuses I have heard in the past are that these students are bringing money into Bridgeport. Well so would a family if they could afford these houses? And they would be paying property taxes on vehicles – something that is sorely missing today! And they would be more respectful of their neighbors. The North End has become a party area reflecting the wild-wild west. Even calling the police does nothing to curb parties.
Why can’t there be a task force for zoning for all the college houses and work with Sacred Heart Administration or Dean of Students to crack down on these houses with 5 or more living in the houses? The absentee landlords know nothing will be done to them in Bridgeport so the habit continues. They don’t care what their houses look like and do the bare minimum for maintenance but collect a high dollar for rent. So will you ignore this complaint, as you have in the past, or do something to help the residents? And why does this complaint keep getting closed out without resolution or response?
