Description

The current traffic situation created by Randolph School is becoming untenable. Eastbound traffic on Drake was backed up to the Whitesburg intersection and wasn't clearing fast enough for people to cross the intersection. This in turn was causing southbound Whitesburg drivers to back up because people couldn't turn eastbound onto Drake. To add to it, there is increasing through traffic in the neighborhoods north of Randolph trying to avoid Drake.

The school creates too much demand for the infrastructure. Previous years have been a nuisance, but it has now turned into a problem. The only difference I can identify is the new crossing guard at Drake/Garth. HPD is doing a poorer job than the crossing guard from previous years, and it's affecting things. Regardless, the crossing guard solution was a poor band-aid of a solution to begin with.

I don't know why it's the public who needs to say this, but the city can't just build big things (or allow businesses to build big things) and not ensure the infrastructure around it is capable of supporting it. If the city is going to allow private businesses with high traffic demands to exist in residential neighborhoods, they need to build the roads to support the traffic, and the traffic signals to control it. Plus, school busses are a thing. Likewise, the business needs some incentive and system in place to handle the traffic better. Right now, the communities near Randolph are paying the price.

This is not working.
