This is a perfect opportunity to set up a loud muffler sting! The cops could use the Ray Price Harley event to bring in all the motorcyclists and then ticket the ones that are loud. It's a perfect cash grab for the City! Think of all the revenue they could make! And who cares that Ray Price puts a couple hundred thousand dollars on the line each year for this event. And the tens of thousands of dollars it brings to the downtown area, we don't need it! We get enough revenue from the residents that live downtown so I say let's end ALL events unless it's a mime convention, or an early bird brunch showcase that ends at 2 pm. I say ticket everyone and make them feel unwelcome here. This is no place for motorcycles, or for anyone that doesn't pay to live downtown! The residents are the ONLY people that matter. Let's kill small businesses and street vendors and ban music and any nightlife in downtown! Enough is enough. I'm going to take a nap now.

Ticketing big V-twins with drag pipes isn't going to kill any business, but will certainly make a better place to live and work. Have never had one next to you at a stop-light? I have many times, and my ears are the worse for it.

So Downtown Raleigh, you object to requiring that bikes be street legal?

If by "requiring" you mean wasting our police officers time writing bs tickets then yes, I disagree with that 100%. There are way more important things our officers can be doing with their time than tracking down motorcyclists.

Would you like to see the police ratchet up the enforcement on vehicle emissions too? Or maybe they should spend their time enforcing parking tickets or J-walking?

There is actual crime happening in Raleigh every day and I would much rather them deal with violent criminals, thieves, etc. The police shouldn't be at our every beckon call when we are burdened by things that are as minuscule as a motorcyclists tailpipes, music, nightlife, or downtown events.

That's my opinion and I understand everyone is entitled to complain, but you have to look at that pros and cons of things such as massive events that help downtown and the City as a whole. People complain constantly about street closures, road races, concerts, nightlife, and anything else that doesn't fit into their idea of a quiet and empty downtown. I disagree with those people. And that's just my opinion.

It's one weekend. Get over it or move and don't live in downtown where there's going to be noise. Move to the country.

I agree with you in general, I have no problem with street closures and like the active downtown. But I disagree with you on enforcing the laws, they should all be enforced. Yes, we should enforce emissions, the police do enforce parking, and the police shut down bars that are too loud after hours. Quality of life issues are very important; having a good quality of life is what us feel safe and encourages development. I have no problem with Bikefest but I do have a problem with illegal bikes, and I have a bigger problem with the police who give them a free pass in Raleigh no matter what day of the year.

For all of you complaining about noise in the downtown area, you should have thought about that before you moved there. You wanted that downtown address status symbol now deal with it.

The laws should most certainly be enforced when not doing so allows an assault, which big V-twins with drag pipes near anyone without ear protection IS.
