It does no good to simply complain and complain on scf

The City pays for this service so that citizens can communicate with them. Why is it that publicly documenting issues to a City that is asking to be held accountable bad?

Lets leave this open until the issue is resolved.
Thanks,

Thanks for feedback Greg,
On SeeClickFix issues are not closed until they are fixed. If you have a suggestion for the City as to how to make it easier for citizens to report on lights that are fixed to poles with no numbers, as in the case of ever light pole downtown, please do so.
Thanks,
Ben

This needs to be closed because nothing specific is requested to be fixed nor reason given for something to be fixed.
Park is closed after dark except for Tennis Courts and parking lot. City is responsible for those lights; not UI. (UI has in some places installed lights thru their Light Up the Night program.)
It's my understanding that the Park should be dark when closed. I know this is a debatable policy but we need Director Levine's comments; I have a call in to him.
PICTURES could be added instead of Pole numbers. BUT we need to know WHY the reporter would like these lights to be ON after dark and/or after Park is Closed.

Yea, why on earth would you want lights to be on AFTER dark? I much prefer them to be on in the middle of the day.
Why would anyone want a lights-out park in one of the most crime-ridden cities in america? Really?

OKAY FOLKS:
Sorry for not posting this with the original posting:
Pole # 10112, #10164, #10113, #10166, #10167 through 8 or 9 (I couldn't even see all the numbers it was so dark), #83333S is also out.
As an aside, the lights seem to be fixed near the tennis court on those UI poles...these are near the skate park.
The reason the lights need to be on in the parking lots is because the Police DO NOT lock the gates as their little bell reminds them to do on their car monitors. They just don't; so, in lieu of this it would be nice if the areas people park and smoke pot and have sex are lit to get them out of there. These are UI poles, with street lights that do not work.

The gates were indeed still open tonight at 11:45pm as I drive past on my way home from a BOA hearing.

Alderman Dildine,
Thanks for taking the time to resolve this.
Here's what I'm thinking. a) the park closes after dark. b) the purpose of a light is to turn on after dark. Therefore, c) the lights were installed to turn on when the park is closed.
Are you suggesting the lights should never have been installed?

Update from conversation with Parks Director today:
NHPD is responsible for locking gates nightly! I will continue to communicate the neighbors' desire to raise this priority (I have raised this issue often).
Lighting. Director confirmed that Tennis court lighting should turn off automatically at 9:30pm for the fall season. Parks maintenance would help if there is ever an issue with the timing.
Some of the tennis court lighting has been decommissioned per USTA partnership and recommendations after they joined in the resurfacing partnership and pole locations were removed and/or improper.
Metered Park lighting city-wide either is timed to go off at park closure at sunset or by 11pm. This is to save $ and due to the park being closed.
UI has per citizen and/or community groups requests provided UN-metered Lighting via their "Light the Night" program. Director Levine agrees that "to light or not to light" a Closed Park has long been debated. There are many folks on both sides of this policy and the Director is unaware of specific data supporting either policy. Parks has honored requests for more light and less light here and there over the years. NHPD seems to in the past several years requested more light was implied by the Director.
Other apparent street light lighting in Edgewood Park along what used to be an open city street (Marginal Dr) and now most refer to as the carriage path and near Coogan & the skate park was once part of an active street light system for an actual street. The Director believes these streetlights have too been disconnected; yet remain on poles. We are checking with the City's Street Lighting engineer to confirm their connectivity (I've spoken with him many times and is indeed responsive to the maintenance of the City's streetlights). Whether they should be on or not all night would still have to be debated.
All for now. Perhaps folks could contact me directly with more questions or comments.
Let's close this specific issue and let anyone re-submit a request for light in a specific Park location, light at particular times, report a problem with tennis court lighting, report a parking lot light that is out that should be on at least when the gates are open and tennis courts are lit, etc.
THANKS!
regular Street Lights city-wide are owned and operated by the City and NOT UI (except for special Light the Night UI lights)
