Deskripsyon

Many people walk, ride bikes, run, push baby strollers on Alps Road which has no sidewalks. It is dangerous! Will the town consider a sidewalk? Can it at least paint the white line that serves as a boundary for cars and walkers? What about some traffic calming as Alps Road narrows before it turns into Clark?

The town responded to me that it had very little "town owned space" on Alps Road to put in a sidewalk. Obviously,many neighborhoods in Branford were built without any mandate to put in sidewalks. People are obliged to walk in the roadways-the braver ones, at least. Lack of sidewalks prevents most people from walking and getting exercise.How can we make Branford greener and more conducive to walking and using streets with safe sidewalks and bike lanes?

The town basically told me that Alps Road is narrow for a sidewalk. I don't believe it. I have seen other streets with narrow sidewalks. They said they would repaint the white strip which acts as a virtual sidewalk but they have not done so. There should also be traffic calming speed bumps near the end of Alps Road where it turns into Clark Ave. Lots of foot traffic there and cars go way to fast.

We are in the process of scheduling a neighborhood meeting with the Police Dept. I will bring this issue up at the meeting. I'm certain we will be talking about the speeding on Alps/Clark as we always do.

I live at South Village and the police came to our meeting as well. I think we need to go directly to the town public works and pressure them to do something. They would be the ones doing the actual speed bumps or other traffic calming improvements.
