Sorry duh but that just does not work in reality because most people who work together do not live near each other. People commute from all over the 7 cities and from neighboring states to work at various companies in Newport News, Norfolk, Chesapeake and Portsmouth. HOV lanes has long been a failed idea of the west coast and if you look out in L A it does not work there either.

These will not change because the HOV lanes were built with federal dollars to help eliminate congestion. Also VDOT does not look at this site so you can recommend it to them. This would be like saying that HOV doesn't work near DC. It does because people find a way to make it work because traffic is that bad and they want to make it work. Sorry but seeing as how I drive this route 7 days a week I see first hand how significant the contrast is between the severely congested main freeway and the sparsely populated changeable hov lanes are. Further you have an agenda it seems to generate revenue for a specific business which brings to question your honesty and intentions. I have worked and traveled in many major cities and have as yet to see a HOV system that actually works .

It is a site that is sponsored by HRT and allows you to get discounts on products if you carpool. It will also help you find someone that is looking for someone. This will help you. I used to car pool until my work location changed. It was really nice being able to fly down the interstate. Just think if everyone was able to go that fast you would still end up with a traffic jam at the military base and ramps back to the tunnel because that more vehicles would get there that much faster. We experience this on the peninsula where we go from 7 lanes under Jefferson Ave. to two lanes in about 1 mile. So the extra lanes do not always help they just cause a problem later down the road.

Citizens need to understand that the citizens voted to cut landscape funding. there are only 3 workers to do the job of 72 just a few years ago. Citizens wanted to keep trash pick ups, police and fire services, and public works. landscape maintaince funding had to be cut. how do I know this? I read the paper, I get involved with my community, I poll citizens and visitors alike at various shopping centers, local eaterys, churches, and bus stops. Most of your non city employed citizens do not understand what the public works crews do in a day. These workers are your very first responders in bad weather. they have to clear the streets of downed trees, repair any broken traffic lights and signs, cut grass, maintain flower beds, pave roads, inspect new and old buildings... The list is way to long for this forum. Thank you public works, you are the ones who hold our city in your hands.
