I have been forwarding these complaints to my contact at DPR, who in turn is providing them to other DPR staff managing trash removal. Please note: DPR is conducting a community outreach effort as part of its planned $1.5 million renovation of this park, including on-line surveys. Please submit your requests for additional trash cans as part of this planned renovation!

I know I haven't caught the garbage every morning (there were piles Friday night, but someone cleaned it Saturday morning for a birthday party) because there are other residents who are starting to clean up (the one who donated the trash can for example). The park essentially forms a front yard for the neighbors and there is only so long you can look at an area full of litter. There is not an expectation for Augusta National, but it also does not need to look like trash bags were opened and dumped out.

I attended both of the community meetings for the $1.5 million that will be spent on the park. This budget earmark is actually for the baseball/football fields. The majority of the funds will be spent on replacing the lights with another significant chunk going to leveling and replanting the grass field.

There will be attention to park outside of the track area, but that is being done by a private group that is donating their time and some assets. I don't know if/how trash collection will be incorporated.

A concern is the long-term maintenance of whatever is done. Obviously, litter has been an issue. I am trying to use pictures to show decision makers the extent of the problem. The solution needs to be a multi-pronged approach which would involve coordination of the entities responsible for the park.

The survey included a list of other possible amenities. I did request an improvements related to litter collection. We will see what happens.

Maybe you can request that people who have big parties with lots of refuse have to take the trash our with them, like you do at a national park when camping.

Thank you for the suggestion; however, the trash and litter is from daily users. The can will overflow on a Tuesday evening from the coming and going of park users. The problem needs to be addressed a couple of ways and your suggestion is definitely an appropriate one.

Yesterday's birthday party was an outlier (the first birthday party I have seen in the park in four years of living across from the park - It tells me things are going in the right direction). Generally, the large, organized groups have done an okay job of bagging their trash and using the big dumpster that is also available. The organized sports teams even go over the entire field after a day full of games.
