This past weekend we had to call into the police to say that there were motercycles go easily 60+ per hour in wheelies in the middle of Yale Ave side by side. Over and over on Saturday and Sunday. Police dispatcher told us this was not an issue
It is very difficult for the police to do anything about these motorcycles and ATVs that plague Westville. Even though they are reckless, dangerous, extremely loud, breaking dozons of laws and making life miserable for residents the police can't do much because a rediculous "No-Chase" rule prevents the police from persuing the law breakers. This makes the police very frustrated but does not excuse rudeness. CALL the supervisor 946-6321. E-mail the Chief jmlewis@newhavenct.net.
You are correct that this issue is difficult, however staff has been advised to attempt to address it. We consider this one of those quality of life issues that does degrade the neighborhoods. As far as rudeness in the communications center, we listen to the tape involved in every allegation of rudeness. At times we don't agree the employee is rude and it is more a case of the complainant didn't like the answer, on other occasions, our employee could have done a better job. On those occasions, we set down with the operator and review the tape as a training opportunity. It is important that you advise us of the date and time, so we can quickly locate the conversation.

Another problem is extreme speeding in the afternoon and at night in the direction from north TO SOUTH. The police seem to be looking for speeding in the opposite direction, which was a problem several/many years ago. The prevailing trend now is for them to accelerate sharply at the bend just after W. Rock Av. and speed like a bat out of hell toward Edgewood. Positioning a police car on WEST ELM would give a great vantage point to catch these guys.
