Does the Yale Police Dept ever give out speeding tickets here?

Even more insane levels of speeding on Chapel Street near the Yale Bowl. My dog was run over by a speeder. The city has not responded to my calls.

Cars race up and down Central, Alden, Edgewood and Chapel all day long. Alderman Marchand just added a Ped Crossing sign to the intersection of W Elm St and Alden which is helping. More needs to be done though.

There is a more over arching theme of a lack of police presence in Westville. I understand police resources are limited but a few drive throughs a day would help.

I was almost hit twice at this intersection recently. Does anybody have accident data on this intersection?

Ben: If you look at the new Yale University report on dangerous intersections, linked from http://www.yalealumnimagazine.com/blog/?p=15762 you'll see this is somewhat of a hotspot. If nothing is done, therefore, it is all but guaranteed that more people will be injured here in the near future.

On College & Chapel, just narrowing the lanes might help reduce speeds.

Gill: I totally agree. Interestingly, a neighbor requested that pedestrian crossing sign on SeeClickFix, and it appeared about two days later. Thank you to Jim Travers, and anyone else who may have helped get it to appear at that location so quickly. Regarding police presence, has anyone asked the NHPD how many tickets have been given out specifically in your immediate neighborhood (not including I-95, Whalley Avenue, etc) for the following illegal behaviors over the past 2 years?
1) Speeding
2) Noise violations
3) Running red lights
I would not be surprised if the answer is "close to 0" for all of the above. In NYC, a review of neighborhood ticketing found that the police gave out more tickets to cyclists than to red light runners in many areas. I rarely see traffic stops on this part of Chapel Street, or in Westville.

Thanks @Mark. I'm going to ping our Alderman and see if we can get some stats. I wish there was a resource where I could look all this up on line. I'm sure it exists but either I don't know of it and/or I'm not allowed to access it. But that's a different ticket altogether.

The Alderman requested those statistics in a 2011 letter to Mayor DeStefano, which was signed by many of the current Aldermen as well as representatives from all 12 of the City's Community Management Teams:

No problem. There's been plenty of documentation on these issues, going all the way back to the 1980s - now we just need some people to work on accountability.
