There is no bulk pickup in new haven. If it's not in the tote they will leave it

I don't think that trash of this size and description is considered bulk pick-up. I thought the guidelines were for small bundles of less than 4 feet. Who knows, maybe public works will clarify this

Unfortunately they won't pick it up if they can see it; I've had this issue before. My solution was to cut it up into smaller pieces, bag them separately, and into the bin they went. I spaced them out over several pickups they were all taken. Sorry!

The "4 feet small pieces" you are thinking about are for bundling branches to be picked up. Carpet is considered bulk but if, as FairHavenRes describes you cut it up in small pieces and bag separately in several pick ups, they will be picked up.

It certainly does seem to be pointless distinction. If I add to the environmental load by putting it all into a big bag (it would fit), or had put it in the container, they would take it, but as it is, carefully cut up small and taped up, they won't. Score another one for the city.

New Haven likes garbage on the street. It gives it that warm lived in feeling.
