Could you be more specific by supplying From and To directions/street names as I don't want to wrongly assume your point of reference. Thanks.

To the DOT - thank you for following up. This is for travel on Chapel Street, in the East bound direction - coming from the West - from State Street, as I go East toward Wooster Square and I-91, and then as I turn left onto Olive Street, to go North, toward Grand Avenue. It needs to be a Left turn only lane - currently people can push from the left lane to go straight on Chapel, but there is no lane for them to go to, so they cut off the people going straight from the right lane of Chapel St. Thank you.

Yes! If you travel through this intersection it is obvious that if a car in the left lane goes straight through this intersection they have nowhere to go except into oncoming traffic. Unknowing motorists get stuck in the left lane when they want to go straight and knowing motorists intentionally and agressively cut off the people in the right lane to get ahead. This should be a simple matter of painting some lines and installing a new sign.

In response to jdavis above It appears that you are suggesting that the right lane be right turn only and the left lane be for straight and left turn. I think this wold create a bottleneck. A better solution would be for the right lane to turn right and go straight and the left lane to be left turn only.

I was not suggesting anything. I was just showing how the intersection currently works.
I think it would be best if the inside lane was left turn only, and the outside lane was both straight and right turn. I believe this is what you are suggesting as well.

It sounds like Transportation, Traffic and Parking got the clarification they requested. The lack of follow-up leaves me concerned that this may have simply slipped off their radar. Transportation, Traffic and Parking, can you provide an update on if/when turn arrows will be painted on EB Chapel at Olive?

the issue still has not been fixed. i have seen countless problems (read: almost collisions) here. chapel street west bound at state street has all of a sudden become a left turn only situation. why cannot this be fixed, where there is no lane in which the left lane, east bound traffic can continue? thank you!

I am pleased to say that this can now be closed! Left Turn Only arrows have recently been added to Chapel Street. Thank you!
