Descrizione

For several years now, there have been almost weekly break-ins to cars parked along Cabrini Boulevard between 190th street and the entrance to Fort Tryon Park. Glass litters the sidewalks every 50 feet. Robert Jackson once told me he was putting in for $ to install cameras, but nothing has happened. It's an ongoing problem that has affected just about everyone I know in the neighborhood at least once.

Have you tried talking to your local police dept commander and ask him for more patrols in that area?
Sometimes a precinct captain or commander will advise a sector car to watch a certain area or block. Please do not any under circumstances confront anyone vandalizing your vehicle.

Thanks. The precinct knows about the problem but that doesn't seem to have had any effect whatsoever. I'm going to post some pictures of the recent break-ins.

This happens on Bennett Avenue between 190th and Broadway a lot too. Inspector Capul of the 34th precinct said they had a dummy car out with cameras but it didn't work. The break-ins have actually gone up a bit in the past few weeks. Get on the phone with Jackson and make him make good on that promise, I say.

I will do that. I'm sure you're aware of the spike in muggings in Inwood and Fort Tryon parks as well. It's getting to feel like a different era up here...

piles of broken glass along cabrini from breakins still a weekly situation. Someone told me that an officer from the precinct mentioned glass shops sending kids out to break windows to increase business.

It's an economic crime because valuables left in plain sight are stolen. The cops don't take it too seriously and Robert Jackson is in his last term and was never too effective as a council member on this issue.

I have had my windows broken despite having nothing in the car and a lousy stereo system. Glass companies? Part of the problem is that the streetlights on Cabrini often seem to be out and stay out for weeks or months, leaving the street pitch black. Same with the lights in Fort Tryon Park.

Well, the NY POST reported yesterday that there were some arrests after many cars had their windows smashed in the same area of Cabrini. This is obviously still an area that is considered robber-friendly.

On December 31, 2014 over 40 cars were vandalized here. It was covered by DNAinfo as well as channel 7 tv and the Daily News. Obviously, this area is being repeatedly targeted and nobody seems to have a solution. Ydanis Rodriguez, the area's rep, says he will try to install cameras. Incredible.
