Code Compliance sent letter to the property owners on June 9, 2014. They are given seven day to comply and if not the City will have their contractor cut the grass and the bill can be applied to their taxes.

Is there any chance this is an elderly owner or one who has a health issue?He appears to have lived there a long time.

I've seen this gentleman outside before he is in his early to mid 50's. I don't know if he has health problems or not but I'm sure if he did he could ask a neighbor to help out or even hire a neighborhood boy or girl to mow his lawn for $10 bucks. He still has to maintain his yard and house and if he can't he can always consider moving into an apartment or condo where people will take care of that for him right? I'm sure his neighbors would like to keep their property values up. Thanks for reporting this Hemi426roadruner! this guy seems to play the game of mowing when he gets a code compliance violation. I see he has a stick pile in his drive way still and hasn't bothered to pick it up along with a lawn roller and some kind of tarp!

This does give you an idea of where the busy bodies live though, so as a potential home buyer you know where NOT to move.

Homeowner I think has realized that people have caught on to his game. He has now mowed before needing to be told to or be fined. We shall see for how long. But good for him for taking the initiative this time without being told to. Hope he continues to

I've lived in our Lansing neighborhoods for over 38 ys so neighborhood Nazis aren't NEW to me.They ALWAYS have the schtick about how THEY are "protecting" the neighborhood when in fact what they are doing is destroying neighborhood unity.If you REALLY wanted to be a GOOD neighbor..you'd get to know this owner and SEE if possibly..he needs a little help.When I was recovering from chemo..I kept trying to keep up with mowing and didn't ask for help.Luckily I had a great neighbor...one who KNEW something was wrong because my grass NEVER got long before.He walked over and helped me out until I got past the chemo and I have since then tried to do the same for any neighbor of mine that might need some help WITHOUT the snarky attitude.

If you wonder WHY I have SO many points..maybe you should read them and find out HOW points are actually accumulated...because COMPLAINTS is NOT the only way.I have had only ONE complaint to make..it has gone on for over 2ys and shows NO sign of being corrected...and it isn't some SMALL thing although it is certainly a correctable thing. If YOU had IT to deal with instead of bothering a neighbor about how often he cuts his grass...MAYBE you could also develop a little more of a neighborly behavior.Worry less about how you THINK your neighborhood LOOKS and learn to appreciate the PEOPLE who LIVE there...maybe HELP a few that might need it?Neighborhoods are about the PEOPLE who live there..not how their houses LOOK.

There's a city code for a reason. If you don't like the code, then go bother City Council about changing it. I don't know of any city that lacks a code for grass mowing, but hey, if you think it's unnecessary then you have the same right to try to get the law changed as anyone else. In the meantime stop harassing the people who are just trying to get the rules that are actually on the books enforced.

"NIce" neighborhood people popping up all over.It would be LOVELY if we could locate all of you people who DON'T like neighbors in the same location..it would be SO much "nicer" for you not to have to live around NORMAL people.It's very sad for me to see what neighborhoods are turning into with "neighbors" like a few of you posting here appear to be.

Hi Bobbie, We've met up many times by way of click fix and consistently share the same ideas. You take time to post positive encouragement in support of neighbors/neighborhoods. In my neighborhood a number of desperately struggling families have been forced out by unapproachable, judgmental busy bodies. They're already broken by their personal struggles, then add on the pressure from the obvious disapproval by their neighbors, they just give up and leave.No one really cares where they went. No one even bothered to get their names by way of an introduction.The result is another abandoned house to sit vacant, maybe for years while foreclosure,deterioration and the search for a new owner take place.Just doesn't work out well for anybody.
You were fortunate to have a perceptive neighbor...tall grass = struggling neighbor. She/he took the time to visit you and find a way to help. Makes me smile just hearing about this!
