As stated previously in response to a related issue, the intersection of Lake Boone and Rexway is on the list of intersections to be studied for a protected left turn. This study included examining current traffic volumes, crash history, and performing field investigations. In takes some time to gather all required data needed to complete this study. There is not a protected left turn there at this time because in previous studies this intersection did not meet the guidelines set from the Institute of Transportation Engineers’ most current edition of the Traffic Control Devices Handbook which are generally accepted by NCDOT. Once our engineers have completed the studied it will be reviewed by the City’s Senior Transportation Engineer before any final decision is made and we will let you know the outcome. Per Public Works, the intersection of Lake Boone Trail and Rex Way was studied for the addition of protected left turn signals. Traffic volumes and crash data were included in this study and the intersection did not meet the criteria set forth by NCDOT and the MUTCD handbook for protected left turn signals for any approach.
