It has been six months. Has there been any progress on this?

Driveway was not widened, curb cuts are original. A section of 9 SF of greenbelt space was asphalted to the north of the driveway apron. Contacting property owner to remove asphalt and return area to greenbelt space

Thank you very much for taking action on this. Whenever greenbelt is paved over and driveways are widened it makes walking more dangerous since cars drive faster and more recklessly. I look forward to the restored greenspace.

I actually believe the city will do the right thing here. They get a ton of pressure from landlords and contractors and they often let offenders delay and drag things out for far too long, but I'm sure the landlord has been notified and is just dragging his or her heels. Thanks to the code officers for taking the flak.

We are coming on one year since this was reported. SeeClickFix is a valuable tool but only if issues are actually addressed. Has the landlord been notified and what sort of consequences is he or she facing? Should I report this to the mayors office instead of SeeClickFix?

This issue was reported in good faith in hopes that this violation of our public space could be set right. The greenbelt serves to absorb storm water, to calm traffic, it is a safety buffer protecting children and other vulnerable users from cars. When we maintain greenbelts it emphasizes that our neighborhood is for people and isn't just a parking area for absentee landlords and inconsiderate tenants. In the year since this violation was first reported other landlords have begun widening their curb cuts. A cynical poster above claimed that the Code Officers would never act on this violation. I said that Bill Ward would do the right thing. Do I owe that poster an apology?

still waiting for the landlord and city to do the right thing and remove the pavement! not cynical just realistic...watched the same thing over and over and over. Hoping it'll be different this time!

Could DPW please let us know where this issue stands?

Quite a bit of time has been spent on this issue and absolutely nothing has changed. We would like to know who in city hall can effectively deal with this. Could Bill Ward and the "Verified DPW Official" who have read and responded to this post please let us know who to call to get some action. Thanks for your help.

Seriously, don't we want Code Enforcement to save lives? Personally I hope that they are concentrating on faulty smoke alarms, CO detectors, and dangerous living situations.
I do not want to diminish your cause, it is definitely important. However, the the time you have spent on this writing these notes would have been cut by about 90% if you made one simple call to the landlord/owner yourself. There are "talkers" and "doers", just saying...

Thanks to "your neighbor" for the helpful information. This is actually exactly what See Click Fix was created for and City officials have encouraged people to use the system for these matters. It is just surprising that in this case the city has dropped the ball. The landlord has of course been contacted repeatedly and has expressed no interest in restoring the greenbelt.

After almost 2 years with an illegally widened driveway and a paved greenbelt I mentioned it to the Mayor who agreed the situation was a problem and asked that I email him the specifics. Shortly after that I received a response from the Director of Public Works who said that they were on the job and would resolve the matter. Today Ron Gore at Public Works called to say that he would have the landlord restore the greenbelt. He said that the paving across the green belt was permitted to be 11 ft wide and that it would be restored to that width.

And it only took 22 months! What a great system! Just submit a report, wait a year and a half, then go over everyone's head to the Mayor and viola! So simple! :)

I'm sorry but Ron Gore specifically said that this was an illegal paving of the greenbelt. He said specifically that it would be resolved and that the landlord would restore the greenbelt. I have all of this in lengthy communications from Ron Gore of Public Works. This is really a pretty clearcut case of a landlord violating city policy and illegally creating a hazardous situation. Please clearly state why you consider the matter closed.

Issue Acknowledged - The new Excavation Inspector closed this one in error - this is still being worked on.

What is the status of this?

I had repeated assurances from Ron Gore at Public Works that the landlord had been contacted and Ron assured me that the landlord would restore the greenbelt to grass as it had been before it was paved illegally. Ron has since retired but I am confident that Code and Public Works will do the right thing.
