Imagine that!

When an issue is closed on this website, it doesn't necessarily mean that the issue has been resolved.
It simply means that the issue has been referred to the appropriate department for resolution. Because of the sensitive
nature of some issues, we can't always post the steps we have taken on this website. Additionally,
citizens may not always visually see things taking place while issues are being worked and some issues may
take several months to be finished. Please remember that we take each concern seriously and make every
effort to make sure it is resolved as quickly as possible.

It seems that Haltom City Staff have chosen to take the low road even with an idea as good as seeclickfix. In reading about this site I see that Haltom City is the Licensee with sole control over what issues are closed .

Too bad they abuse the citizens only online connection to their government. A funny thing happened on the way to a better city, Haltom City. The Staff has used this site to promote their own agendas. Not only does the City close discussion prematurely, they have been known to completely delete threads that they are embarrass by. When Innocent Bystander talked about City properties not in compliance the entire thread disappeared!

It seems that this site has been a great revenue generator for the City. As we note things.

The City has even seen fit to budget for more tickets and Court costs as a way to make ends meet. Thanks no doubt to us writing here on SeeClickFix.

Tickets are such an easy revenue stream that City is PLANNING to raise $2,064,742 in 2011 ( see the City Budget ) through issuing tickets. This is a 37.5 % increase over last year’s ticket receipts.

37.5 % Is a really big jump! $559,000 more

Those tickets have come from somewhere. If the budget is not met, cuts in STAFF and /or salaries , will have to be made. The easiest, most practical way to increase ticket revenue is simply to write more tickets for code violations. It difficult and expensive to place more licensed police officers catching more speeders in an effort write more tickets. Besides the citizens expect the police to catch real criminals. That places the revenue grabbing responsibility on the code officers.

On a recent scheduled Court docket 69 of the 82 items to be heard were CODE violations. Code tickets START at $250 dollars.

That is why ladies and gentlemen, issues like street potholes are quickly closed and city properties in violation are deleted.

The City LOVES this site, it has control over what is heard and what is NOT heard.

The REASON they suggest you call them is there will be no more PUBLIC scrutiny and plenty of room for later denial.

It could not have been better said or more true than what The Insider posted! One thing I have started doing is printing the reported issues and comments because we have all noticed certain comments or reports simply disappearing or being altered or monitored! Another thought, when I have reviewed the SeeClickFix.com webpage it indicates a cost for cities to be a licensed user...so that means our taxpayers money is paying for this site that the city employees use, or don't use, at THEIR discretion. If "The Insider" is named for being a government employee or previous employee, take heed! I too am a previous government employee, from North Texas, and I left government because of the lying, cheating, and "behind-closed-doors" meetings where government officials and employees mocked citizens, discussed how to "pull a rug over" this or that situation, and expressed how "stupid", "ignorant" and "uninvolved and unaware" the citizens are! We should all be far more careful when we go to vote again for local elected officials!

We just heard from the City Manager and Mayor via email, stating that "Dealing with these issues over email is very awkward and time-consuming." and stating that I could call them or come in to talk further.

Electronic mail has become a vital part of our society. Individuals use email to quickly communicate regarding personal matters. Companies use email to communicate with customers and to drive visitors to their web site. Email is more convienent and efficent for everyone.
WE, the citizens, do this thru email in part, so that WE the Citizens of Haltom City can be involved in OUR city and see the changes that are pertinent to US. We would like to maintain an open relationship with the city.Can you imagine how time consuming it would be for them to meet with each of their contacts face to face? Surely they email council members, employees, other staff and other outside agencies. Why NOT communicate with your constituents in the same manner.

I agree 100% with you "heresyoursign", I am merely passing along the message sent to me. I declined the phone and face-to-face because we do not feel comfortable with contact that has no way of being documented as to what was said (and promised). I also stated to them that I did not agree with the analysis that email is a "very awkward and time consuming" manner to deal with issues. Email allows us to report details as to exactly what is going on while doing so in a very quick click of the send button. Considering SeeClickFix.com also uses online messages/posts, I also questioned whether or not HC employees and officials are capable of utilizing the program effectively if electronic messages are "awkward and time consuming".

Wow -- wish I'd had more time to follow up on this site with my problem-posting. Had no idea it would engender such discussion as I had just found the site. Since I'm fairly new to the city as a resident and I generally work 7 days a week, I wasn't aware of the huge problems in little Haltom City.

Happy to report that, for whatever reason, the street light has been replaced, and with a much better light than we had previously. During the day after the last round of storms (last week?) I called Oncor again myself and was told they were only taking emergency calls. To which I responded -- this light was one of the emergencies weeks ago and is still down/out, so why not report it as an emergency now as well? She had no response other than she couldn't take the report, to call back. However, 2 days later the light was replaced.

Hopefully, this site will continue to be of some help, although maybe not in the perfect way we'd all like. I had some difficulty with the way it worked the night I found and used it, but it seems to be resolved now.
