countless times you said nothing.....if it is soo horrible why complain after "countless" times......i would complain that instant,,,insted of being affected "countless"times.....it is not the nurses or the docs wtf.....we have to service all of northen sask....pretty much and how can one hospital handel that? should have kept holy family.......our nurses and drs are burnt out because of the constant demand for care

If they had proper training or common sense one should not have to say anything.. I,ve seen doctors give the nurses crap for there unsanitary practises. when someone gets a bad infection because of a dirty needle used for an epideral I hope that place gets sued

I have to say ,,,Must of lucked out as Never have experienced any of this,,,Only thing ever had a prob with the hospital is the long waiting times,,,,,I had great nurses and care while I was in 3 years ago. had the new residients from the Philipians I think,,,Were kind ,considerate and caring.

I cannot believe that this statement is even true. If it is shame on you for not saying anything! You are just as much at fault!

Only thing I can say about my exp here was it looked like to me that there was a LOT of training of new people going on. When getting my IV while in Labor, the nurse who did it had to stick me 4 differnt times because she was "learning" how to do an IV. Then I was reassured that the same nurse who was doing my IV had delivered "hundreds" of babies and not to worry. Not a complaint, just an observation.

My husband just had a hernia operation and also had a similar exp. The nurse putting in his IV to put him under was getting yelled at by the anesthesiologist for not doing it right. it wasnt hooked up properly and started shooting all over the place. two of the nurses in the OR room before he was knocked out didnt know how to open the bags to get the scalpel and other equipment out. I mean at least knock the poor guy out before letting him see that! lol

all kidding aside, keep up the hard work vic team, you can only do so much with the Harper government as your bosses!

Always using new medical supplies can get pretty expensive... Maybe they are re-using so they can save money for Cecille's raise? Jk

I find this statement very hard to believe. If this is happening, why would you allow them to treat you? And what sort of medical equipment are you talking about? There is a big difference if they drop an open needle versus a blood pressure cuff.

And not that it makes it ok, especially at a hospital, but people really need to get over the whole sanitization thing. A little dirt won't kill you (unless like I mentioned above it was a needle).

I tried editing my comment earlier however, it would not let me. I do not mean re-using equipment, what I meant is dropping equipment and not cleaning it and continuing to use it.

Just so you know, nurses do not prepare or touch any epidural equipment. The sterile epidural sets and all needles, medications, drapes, etc are only opened and handled by the anesthetist who is doing the procedure. Therefore, you did not ever see a nurse drop anything even remotely close to epidural equipment on the floor.

wow.. I've never experienced this.. not when friends or family, nor when I gave birth to my two children at the Vic have I ever seen anything out of the ordinary; but the exceptional work they do, for caring for those "I" love and also for those who were also in the hospital during my stays, as well as my friends/families.. but wow again - this should have been a full, front, loud, impromptu, outburst in the presence of the incident.. not on a public forum wanting to knock health care providers with no grounds, no facts, no proof and obvioulsy no witnesses... Bad timing reporter - no sympathy for you here

Actually yes I have, The anesthesiologist got really angry with a nurse, because she had dropped the long needle then tried to continue on to use it after it had dropped on the floor, and she had picked it up with her bare hands which were also Unsterile.

and just recently, my son was admitted the nurse dropped a syringe on the floor picked it up, placed it on the counter, she then walked out of the room, came back and was going to procede ahead and use it.. I then let her know she wasnt using that on my child.

these nurses disgust me and they wernt the new trainiees either. they better shape up. next time I witness this I will be reporting. and wanting something done about that whole place.

Like I said earlier, nurses don't touch or use epidural needles or equipment. The anesthetist (not anasthesiologist) opens the package containing all the supplies and the nurse does not touch anything or use any of the supplies.
Also, not every person in the hospital wearing scrubs is a nurse. Some of them are resident doctors, housekeeping, dietary staf, etc so just know who you are talking about before you start making allegations. Also, document that persons name and job title and file a complaint. Otherwise, seek care somewhere else.

And I wish there was somewhere else to seek care, because the vic hospital is terrible.

To any one complaining about out health care workers/providers and out facilities could be more thankful that we actually have a health care system where we do not have to pay through our noses. Just look south of the border into the US. I do not agree with the wait times, but anytime that I have been to the Vic Hospital the services was acceptable!!!

My comment isn't about the nurses but about the hospital. Recently on the maternity floor a family member had to be removed from her room and put into another because her room was infested with beetles and they had to get an exterminator in to kill the bugs. What a nice experience for someone who is in premature labor. Another item for discussion was the tub that they expect mothers to soak in, the tub had about 8 cracks 2 inches long in bottom of tub. What kind of infection is lurking there waiting to come out and infect the poor mother that has just given birth. The nurses were wonderful and other than that the rooms were clean.

i spent lots time in vic recovering from my illness. nurses where wonderful i spent 4 weeks there not once did i see them do anything wrong. They where friendly and caring.They work a hard job and long hours and i think doing a good job. How many times did u really see them drop things on floor?? until u spend time there like 4 weeks and see how things r keep your mouth shut. And if u dont like it go somewhere else to get free heath care

The delivery truck that is parked at the rear of Partners Furniture . you can squeeze a small car by BUT an ambulance or fire truck would never get by..so the safety of people in that area is compromised ..( if you had a heart attack and the ambulance was on the wrong side he would have to drive around 3 city blocks to get to you...also the same applies to a fire truck trying to get through would not be able to .I spoke to a male parking meter attendant about it as he was right there , and never even gave them a ticket ,his reply was ..*there is no issue here .they have a permit to park there*... a solution could be to give Partners a spot in the PARKING LOT LESS THAN 20 METERS AWAY!!!!!!

I have experienced good and bad with nurses, but the main issue of the hospital, is waiting in outpatients to see a doctor. You can be very ill, but when all the drunks come in, and detox is full, they then get first priority over others. It is very sad. For major health concerns you are suppose to be able to go there, but to have to wait up to 6-8 hours to see a doctor is crazy. And sometimes you see the nurses and doctors at the main station, visiting, laughin, and talking. What about the patients?

How sanitary is it sitting out on 10th Ave W smoking and then going back into the hospital???

just going out to the person or people who are upset about things being dropped on the floor and then used after...if a "needle" is dropped, it's typically the syringe that contains the medication that gets dropped and it's not going to be contaminated becsuse it's the outside that's had the contact, not the solution that's being injected. the actual needle that's attcached to the syringe is secured with a cap and not removed until at the patient's bedside (to prevent a needlestick injury). It does look bad but if it's not contaminated, there's no reason why it can't be used. i'm referring to syringes and needles for iv or im injection. I do think though, that nurses and doctors and housekeeping and dietary and anyone else involved with patient care does need to pay special attention to handwashing. working in a medical setting, there definately can be improvements made on that and it isn't just nurses though. it's everyone. and what's wrong with laughing and visiting at work? i didn't realize enjoying your job and who you work with was so bad. do you really want to be looked after by someone who's a grump? i sure don't. let's be realistic. i think the bottom line is that as long as people are getting proper care, that's all that matters. if someone feels they're not, they need to bring that concern to the manager, the director of nursing or the chief of staff. there are lots of people to go about your concerns and so should you. that's your right.

Just because we don't have to directly pay for our health care up front we indirectly pay for the services and we deserve the same equal care as if we paid up front! The health care has an ethical obligation to give everyone proper "care". They need to treat everyone as if it was one of their loved ones getting treated and would they do the same things probably not! This isn' t just nurses or doctors , it is the house cleaning as well they take short cuts because they have a time limit as to get the rooms switched over so there for they skip what they think are of little importance to be cleaned. The hospital is a very dirty dirty place , when the Holly was around it smelled like a sterile hospital you could litteraly eat off the floors and no where would you find blood or other bodily fluids on surfaces like you do at the VIc!!! We need to voice our concerns to people who can do something about this i have heard that over and over but because they are union members they all stick up for each other. I avoid this hopital but we shouldn't have to we should feel comfortable and safe . I have been in different areas of the hospital and it is like this in all places i have been, blood on a chair surface, blood on the rail of the bed and it wasn't from us!!! Gross!!! I have witnessed uncleanliness of the nurses and the cleaning staff, they should be made to take a mandatory course on infection control and maybe they would be more aware that what they are doing in unacceptable. There is no reason for this day and age to be evacuating rooms because of a bug infestation if the proper steps were taken from start to finish this would never had happend. We are not a third world country we have all the tools and resources right at our finger tips. I have hospital staff walk out of a room with clear gloves on then go to the community cart and touch things then go back to the room ok so i ask did they touch anything in that room that they didn't want to touch with their bare hands? So why would they go and expose that risk to whom ever goes and touches the cart next? There are questionable practices from the hospital staff all the time and we as the community shouldn't have to worry or have doubts in the health care,this is a big issue and needs to be addressed!!!!But i do believe we as the community need to do something about this!!!One just may not know where to go!

I can relate; I went for a procedure in the hospital which required me to have an IV; the nurse didn't wear gloves when inserting the needle; something happened and there was blood everywhere; sorry to see she doesn't care about her health; how does she know I don't have a disease which could transfer via blood or for that matter how do I know she doesn't have something that I could get by her touching me with her bare hands where I'm bleeding;

Its also terrible when all the wheelchairs in the reception area smell like urine and have blood all over them; doesen't anyone clean those things?

Any staff in the hospital takes a manditory infection control class. There are a lot of issues in that place:
#1 Very very short staffing-thats is why everything is dirty.
#2 a lot of really dirty people come into the ER dept. Bed bugs come in on people so unless everyone is willing to stip down nude and get deloused as soon as they walk in the door, it will always be an issue especially people coming from low income areas, they do not have the means or the education to deal with these things.
#3 YOU have a voice. If you don't like what is happening, or what you have seen or she is not using gloves etc. YOU are the customer and YOU have the right to decide who/what/when/where/how you are touched/treated. there is absolutely nothing wrong with you saying 'I'm sorry I would be more comfortable if you put gloves on." I work in the hospital and I have had patients say I'm sorry can I watch you wash your hands and I say absolutely. I don't know your history, I have no right to compromise your health for my convenience.
#4 There is a nursing supervisor that looks after all nurses in the hospital and you should not be afraid to ask to speak with him/her or ask for their contact number and speak to them as to what you saw/felt. You have a right to ask and feel comfortable with your safety.
#5 There is a Infection Control officer that works at the hospital who is supposed to supervise all sanitation in the hospital: hand washing, precautions like respiratory illnesses, MRSA etc, She could also be contacted with concerns.

You are right, we don't directly pay for our healthcare but you have a right to ask. There is absolutely nothing wrong with saying that this nurse/lpn/phlebotomist anyone is making me uncomfortable or I don't feel safe with them can I please have someone else. Nothing can be changed if you don't ask, or tell someone that can change it.

for those who say we at least don't have the expensive US system, know this, you pay MORE in tax for health care than the average american pays of insurance.

what that means is, the US is Cheaper. (Better? another discussion)

as for blood etc... I've seen incidents of uncleanliness, and brought it up to staff. it was cleaned quickly

But the washroom in the ER area was flithy and was NOT cleaned while my wife and I were there... over 6 hours. And Yes, we did mention it

Also, how often do you see them actually washing their hands after a situation such as giving somebody an IV. They could be exposed to body fluids such as blood and they also don't take the two seconds it takes to put on a pair of gloves. It's all about infection control.
