Have I seen it? My studio faces those tracks. Most of the Graffiti down there is done by graffiti artists and not gang related at all. There is usually a pretty clear difference visually between the two. For instance, the tags on the fence on Peck across from Erector Square are gang tags / dealer tags for sure. These are designed tags/
My opinion is that THOSE tags in that dark dirty area are NOT those kinds of tags. I'd like to see the numbers that show that street art (NOT these @#$% gang tags) breeds destruction further. Most of the studies and numbers i've seen say otherwise
As an artist i'm torn on the idea of graffiti. I know its using someone else's property for your own art illegally.. I also know that MOST of the time the art it placed in an area forgotten about by the town beautification dept anyways. My opinion is that the police and town should probably focus MOST efforts on the much nastier things going on in this neighborhood than spending time and effort and money white washing these non gang / non drug related "tags"
I mean hell.. there's @#$% needles on the side of the road on Peck where kids play!
