Couldn’t figure out a way to add photos to an existing issue, but a tenant at this address was observed dumping this stuff on the sidewalk. It’s been here for at least two weeks and more trash is being added.

What happened to the so-called "ATV Hotline"?

http://www.newhavenindependent.org/index.php/archives/entry/atv_crackdown/ The article concludes,"He urged people to keep calling the tip line at 203-946-6298 to share information anonymously, and tell the police where the bikes are being stored. He also passed out a stack of business cards with his contact information so they could contact him personally." This was only five months ago.

Only five months ago. Now people who call 203 946-6298 are told this is not a dirt bike hotline. ATV's are now swarming the city, negatively impacting the quality of life. Can anything be done, or do we have to wait until an innocent driver, bicyclist, or pedestrian is killed?

As posted to "Contact" at the Goodwill website. "Container is at the corner of Olive and Grand in New Haven. Isn't it time you picked up the stuff or moved the collection bin where you are able to maintain it?"

Paying taxes is never fun, but the City of New Haven makes paying taxes online even more complicated with directions that are out of date or in error.

Early in the process, you read this:

"An online payment processing system for the use of New Haven taxpayers is currently under construction. In the interim, we are using a third-party vendor, www.officialpayments.com. When you select PAY NOW, you will link to their site. Before you do so, make a note of the amount that is due and that you wish to pay. Please note that www.official payments.com imposes a service fee."

This statement is not true. You are now connected to an different payment site. You need to register or enter your payment information. You are not told that you need to check your email to "activate" your account. But you do.

    Then you read this:

"The following is a list of additional charges, both required and optional, that are assessed and accounted for seperately from the tax bill. Please review the items below.

    No additional charges:

Note the misspelling of "separately." After being told that there are "No additonal charges," you are advised that there ARE additional charges -

"Welcome to the City of New Haven Online Tax Payments. Please note that a convenience fee will be applied to your payment. If you are paying by ACH/Bank Account there is a fee of $0.75 per transaction. If you are paying with a card, there is a fee of $3.25 if using a debit card and a fee of 2.50% of the total payment amount if using a credit card. Please confirm that the fee for your transaction is what you anticipated on the Verification page."

In all, it took me over an hour to pay my taxes. With hundreds of people paying their taxes online in the next few weeks, couldn't somebody make the process just a little bit more user friendly?

Lucinda Williams Concert. Police used to enforce the "down in front" policy. Now they don't. Hundreds of people can't see the stage because of a selfish few.

A neighbor who requested information on disposing of a “moldy old sofa” was advised to transport it to the recycling center or to schedule a pickup. Public Works pickup, however, requires that your driver's license needs to match the current address, and this student has a parent’s address on the license. And the recycling center doesn't take residential waste. That policy would seem to explain why we see so many old couches left on the curb. I'm sure it costs the city more to send a crew to pick up furniture left illegally on the street than it would for the DPW to be a bit more flexible on accepting items from people like this person who wants do do the right thing.

Once again, we have to deal with tenants dumping furniture on the sidewalk at the end of the month. The chair, at 99 Olive, is new. The mattress, box spring, and futon, at 117 Olive, have been on the sidewalk for about a week.
