There is a depression in the crosswalk from the south side of Chestnut St. to Norman St., crossing Summer St. It is hard to see and a tripping hazard for pedestrians crossing Summer St. in a dangerous intersection.

Case 13091815 was opened almost a year ago to improve the visibility of this badly placed "No Right on Red" signage. Nothing has been done. The sign should be on the same pole as the red light in this photo. As shown in the photo, it is currently lost in a scramble of colors, shade, and shapes.
There is a good "No Right on Red" sign further back on Boston St., but this is the sight presented to the driver making a decision about turning.

Issue ID: 13091815 was assigned to the Electrical Department 9 months ago, and there are 5 followers and 9 comments from citizens. Nothing has been offered by the Electrical Department in response. The issue involves pedestrian safety in the dangerous intersection at Dunkin Donuts on Boston St. This issue cannot be allowed to fall between the cracks.

Could we please have illuminated "Yield" signs at this rotary? Many drivers need a stronger jolt to break the habit of sailing though the intersection, especially in the evening.

Snowbank blocking crosswalk at a busy downtown intersection. Good luck with that baby carriage!

If the city isn't going to bother clearing the sidewalks in front of municipal property, why would homeowners act responsibly?
Should we fine the Cemetery Commission?

Ar 398 Essex St, DPS just reported that the "damaged pedestrian crosswalk sign" issue had been "resolved". There is now no sign at all. Is that what is meant by "resolved" ?

"DPS" tells me that SeeClickFix "has been adjusted so that only the user who makes the initial request can comment on the request".

What is the rationale for this new policy? If other residents have corroborating information or clarifications to offer, why would you prohibit them from commenting?

    Thanks

Why do the SeeClickFix issues now say "Public commenting and status changes are not available for this issue." ?
  • Greenway Rd At Route 107 salem, Massachusetts - City of Salem
Snow has been plowed into the crosswalk, forcing students to walk in the highway.
  • Greenway Rd At Route 107 salem, Massachusetts - City of Salem
Sidewalks on Highland Ave are impassable. High School students walk back and forth to school on this road and they are forced to go out onto the highway. This is irresponsible neglect.

Please remind Verizon that the sidewalk extends to the crosswalk. It's good that they did their duty by shoveling around the building, but not so good that pedestrians have to scale this snow pile to get to the shoveled area.

It wouldn't hurt to remind plow operators that hydrants, crosswalks and sidewalks are not the ideal places to put street snow.

Finally, could the mayor please take a walk around Town House Square before making any more statements about Salem the "pedestrian-friendly" city? The slush, puddles and ice in the center of the city are a disgrace.

    Thanks

Metal panel twisted and raised perpendicular to sidewalk. Perhaps this is related to the National Grid excavation nearby.

Sunday is a big day for tourists. Let's show them Salem at its best. The public trash receptacles are an embarrassment today.
  • 398 Essex St Salem, Massachusetts - City of Salem
The backhoe did a great job on the corner of N Pine & Essex, but, unfortunately, the operator was unaware that there is a hydrant next to the light pole. He dumped a major load onto the hydrant leaving it under a mountain of snow. We have been trying to keep the hydrant exposed, but it is now a job for a machine to remove the mountaintop. We will be glad to clear the hydrant once it becomes feasible for a shoveler to accomplish.
  • Norman @ Holyoke Salem, Massachusetts - City of Salem
Verizon has created a wall of crusted snow around its corner of Norman and Holyoke. This wall blocks pedestrians wishing to cross Holyoke, as well as those wishing to cross Norman on the crosswalk. On the other side of Norman, 7-11 has done nothing to clear the other end of the crosswalk. I wouldn't want to bankrupt these fragile Mom-and-Pop businesses, but wouldn't a hefty fine help to focus their attention on this issue?
