Deskripsyon

This house was flooded in May of 2010 and almost 4 years later continues to deteriorate, with trash, old furniture, and other debris littering the yard. This issue was reported to Codes and signed off on as resolved in January 2014. The mess is still there nearly two months later. It is an ongoing eyesore and a detriment to a neighborhood that has otherwise recovered well from the flood of 2010. It is an embarrassment for the image of Nashville that our mayor promotes for our city.

I got a response from Councilman Sheri Weiner yesterday about this.

Metro bought this home on Friday. It is a Metro Parks project but we are doing the work for them to get it to closing and torn down. If there is no asbestos or lead paint hopefully demo will be soon. MDHA and Metro Parks are handling this already.

There should not be any asbestos or lead paint in this house (built in 1984). Riley, do you have any idea about what Parks is planning to do with the property once the demo is done? It would be great to see some activity soon.

I agree. I would strongly suggest you contact the Parks Dept. for information on a timeline. Try Sheri Weiner, too, since she is your district council-person.

Thanks for the suggestion about contacting Parks re this issue. (FYI Bo Mitchell is the council rep for this neighborhood and has not been responsive in the past.)

I recently heard from the Metro Greenway department that the house was purchased by MDHA. Evidently there is a bidding process for demolition and no timeline for how long before the demo will occur. There is also controversy regarding the use of the lot after the house is gone. Until the lot is cleared and cleaned up, this issue remains open.

Good news! The house has been demolished, and the lot is being seeded with grass. After nearly four years the problem is finally being resolved.
