  Yes, the speeding gets bad... it’s all ages. I am often tailgated (and a couple times passed) while going over the speed bumps.

  While a separate but similar concern, it is VERY DANGEROUS where the bike path intersects Staniford Rd. Many cars do not stop, many bikes don’t stop, there is a blind curve, and my personal favorite... I have been yelled at BY DRIVERS for trying to cross IN THE CROSSWALK as a pedestrian! It is hard to see if cars are coming when one is crossing from the “Leddy direction” to the “causeway direction), often by the time people have begun to cross, a car (even going 25 mph) can hit them.

  It is AMAZING and very lucky no one has gotten hit yet.

  They either need higher traffic bumps or more of them and the police should patrol more often if they bother to do at all!

  I walk 2-3 hours a day (total) and I see police cars and fire engines drive thru this neighborhood. I see... A LOT. This is a BIG walking and biking neighborhood... year round! Lots of kids play outside in their yards, ride their bikes, and lots of people own dogs and cats.

  It isn’t worth the cops time to pull someone over unless they are in great excess of the speed limit. Speed limit is 25 mph, which means people can drive up to 35 (possibly more) without fear of being pulled over. Time and money is better spent on ways to slow people down as well as BUILD A SENSE OF COMMUNITY AND RESPONSIBILITY. I slow down when I see kids, walkers, bikers, runners, animals, etc., because I know they are unpredictable and I would rather take a couple minutes longer to get where I am going than risk scaring or running over someone! Seems like most people don’t think the same way. So maybe we need to focus on helping people decide that driving slower is beneficial to all.

  Lastly, we get a LOT of trucks and commercial vehicles down Staniford rd. We get a lot cars going to Appletree and other side streets. Even with a 25 mph speed limit, that is too fast where Staniford intersects the bike path... really needs to be a 4 way stop.

  I know something needs to be done about it and its ignorant drivers who could care less. The people on Home ave have been waiting for 3 years for dpw to respond to the problem there and nothing has been done! This is rediculous and dpw is very poorly run, they need a new .manager that will take control and actually do something!

  I’m a Staniford Road resident who is deeply concerned about the children and pets on our street due to traffic and speeding. We’ve got so many young families on this street and more children than ever (I lived on Staniford from 1985-2003 also). Although we have speed bumps, they don’t seem to work for the first section of the road where people accelerate after turning from the avenue (and there are atleast 15 children who live in the homes before the first speed humps). I’ve seen people speed up or down only to slow down when they have to for the speed humps. Since there’s an additional neighborhood development, Staniford Farms, there is increased traffic flow. A couple of years ago, a driver raced up Staniford road so fast that they couldn’t make the right turn and smashed into Bessaries storefront. Yesterday, a neighborhood family’s cat was killed by a vehicle right near the speed bumps.

  I’ve been meaning to write for a while now. We bought our home on Staniford Rd seven years ago and we were one of the few houses with children. Now I count at least 15 families with little kids on this street between North Ave and Oakland Terr alone. Cars travel down this wide street at terrifying speeds. Today our cat was victim of a hit and run and I can only conclude that speed was involved. It was mid day, bright and clear as can be. Today not only did we lose our family pet, we have the heartbreaking task of telling our seven year old daughter that her beloved Teddy has passed away. I can’t even imagine the pain if such an event were to happen to a person in our neighborhood. The unmaintained speed bumps do nothing to slow drivers down, please help us make this street safe for the dozens of kids that live and play here

  Jennifer and the rest of the residents, I feel so sorry for you having to deal with this nonsense and the refusal of the dpw or the city to take any action! It is especially hard on a child or family to lose a pet and maybe evan a family member due to the actions of the drivers! Something should be done immediately instead of waiting for a person to get severely injured.. Wake up dpw and do your job!!

  Thank you for writing and following up on this request. This has been entered into our queue for traffic calming evaluation. The first step is to collect traffic data and then review crash data. Traffic data will be collected this season and the review will take place this winter. The traffic calming program is very popular, so we'll review this data and this request with all of the other citywide requests for an improvement next year or in the following years. We'll follow up once that review has taken place this winter.
