Other than "they ignored the sign", what is the issue? I don't break the rule, but I've never seen it cause an accident or even come close. As long as people are seeing no traffic on main street, to me it is the rule that's the problem. Getting additional cars off the bridge and out of the rt 8/34 intersection is a benefit.

The bigger issue I see is the right turn only lane by tailgator's driveway. The intersection is wide enough for there to be both a right turn only lane and a second straight lane from main to 34 - some people do that now and create a second lane of straight traffic. As busy as that intersection is, it's amazing how rare accidents there are...

The issue is there is a sign and by making that turn you are violating that law. I also find people in the middle lane that will then turn left which is a definite problem as they cut cars off to make the turn. Only those in the left lane are suppose to turn. I drive there everyday and I can't believe the things that people do including blocking those coming from Tailgators going straight to 34. All because they don't want to wait at the light and prefer going through the yellow light and blocking traffic.

Understand the problem, but enforcement gets prioritized by incidents. There are very few accidents caused by this illegal maneuver (I couldn't find any in the state database) and as Anonymous noted it does help clear the queue from Interchange 15. The law exists because they don't want you turning into a second lane, but essentially it operates the same way as a regular "Right-on-Red": Stop, check for traffic from the left and proceed to a right hand turn.
That said, I have observed Derby Police pull over (and presumably cite) drivers making this illegal movement.
(BTW- I don't think CT Livable Streets Watch should be "Acknowledging" this issue, leaving local officials unable to resolve it on SCF. You have thousands of issues open and will probably not get to this for a very long time if ever)

This issue no longer exists - with new construction there are now only 2 eastbound lanes (instead of the 3 that existed when this issue was filed) and a small island has been installed so you can only turn right from the right lane and left from the left lane.

This issue should be "Closed" but CTLSC has it locked up
