Deskripsyon

Chestnut St is the quickest, most direct route into Center City but its also one of the more dangerous roads to bike on. As Chestnut St is a main thoroughfare for cars and buses travelling east from West Philly, a bikelane would do wonders to ensure a safer ride for cyclists travelling to Center City.

I agree, this would be a major improvement of cyclist going to and from work.

I agree that a bike lane here is necessary. Speeds also need to be reduced so people feel comfortable using it. This is a major route.

"The principal trend that emerges from the papers reviewed here is that clearly-marked, bike-specific facilities (i.e. cycle tracks at roundabouts, bike routes, bike lanes, and bike paths) were consistently shown to provide improved safety for cyclists compared to on-road cycling with traffic or off-road with pedestrians and other users. Marked bike lanes and bike routes were found to reduce injury or crash rates by about half compared to unmodified roadways."

There does need to be a bike lane, but auto speeds do not need to be reduced. The new green wave keeps cars going at or below 35 MPH, which is fine. Erratic driving, not speed, is dangerous.

Chestnut has been resurfaced and there is a bike lane now.
