Cars must stop for pedestrians in crosswalks. The solution is to put up a sign that says "Stop for pedestrians in crosswalks." Eddie's VERY right.

This is not a philosophical discussion, it is a practical one. I have witnessed many cars speeding through the crossing, whether they "should" or not. And I have witnessed many people crossing the path without looking, assuming that the cars will stop. It just seems to me that it would just be safer to have stop signs going in both directions. That's all.

Stop signs in both directions, OK. But the original complaint said the stop signs are facing the trail INSTEAD OF the cars. I wasn't philosophizing, I was pointing out that pedestrians, bicyclists and in-line skaters need to be mindful of their surroundings, not soaring down the trail with their iPods on, not paying attention to anything or anybody else and assuming they're safe. They're a danger not only to themselves, but to the rest of us. I use the trail a lot, and I've noticed that the signs at other intersections that say "Stop for Pedestrians in Crosswalks" seem to work.

Okay, how do we suggest such a sign (stop for pedestrians in crosswalks) be added on the River Rd crossing?

There are 2 different " Walt's" on this site. but , mostly I agree with the Walt here. but do not know whether he is the copycat. or the original Walt or I am.

Too many joggers and bikists and walkers (not only driver) completely ignore traffic signs.

If the Stop Signs face you, you should stop, and not claim the right-of way when it is not yours, whether you are a driver or other folk.,
