Response I received after reporting to the OPD CSO...
“This location has been forwarded to the Encampment Management Team for consideration, and an outreach request for this location has been generated. Your inquiry will be addressed in the order that it was received. There are currently over 100 active inquiries being addressed, so please bear with us as we work diligently to upstaff and deploy additional resources.
Feel free to share any additional information about the encampment for tracking purposes, which can include pictures and/or approximate number of people/tents/vehicles observed.
Finally, with respect to nuisance and public safety issues—this should be reported directly to the Oakland Police Department, if you have not done so already. OPD polices homeless encampments for dangerous criminal activity the same way they police the housed community and by receiving these reports they know to prioritize the area and the issue.
If this is a medical or physical emergency, please call 911 immediately.
Contact daryel dunston, drdunston@oaklandca.gov, your Oakland Police CRO and your area city councilperson, that is the only way to get this camp on their radar for mitigation/closure. Manila street camp neighbors, by being extremely squeaky wheels, were able to get real action taken about the camp on their block, by doing just that. Organize the neighbors, business owners and property owners--that is how s**t gets done.
