A poorly engineered condition. Moving the enter/exit
to another location would solve the problem.
One location could be the contractors trailer site.

I live on Bush Hill Road, very close to the Miller Pond intersection. I strongly agree that these issues merit immediate action. It is only a matter of time before there is a catastrophic accident. I've nearly been hit a number of times by speeding motorists as I pull out of my driveway onto Bush Hill Road. I've also missed being hit a handful of times while turning left onto Miller Pond (as an oncoming car was hidden in the dip in the road). Unless you’re very familiar with these hazards, you’re not prepared to take precautionary actions, such as driving to the very top of the hill, and waiting long enough to ensure a motorist is not oncoming, before making a left onto Miller Pond. PLEASE take these requests seriously. As I already mentioned, it is really only a matter of time before a terrible accident will occur.

I live on Fir Grove Rd. ,so I'm forced to use that intersection more than once daily. I never gave the site line issue much thought as I drive a fourwheel drive pickup truck, which sits higher than your average vehicle. The other day however, as I was pulling onto Bush Hill Road, I was nearly struck by a west bound vehicle, traveling at a high rate of speed. Granted, the speed of the oncoming car significantly added to the problem ,but if there were not site-line issues eg. vegetation, mail boxes and the dip in the road, it would not have been such a close call. It would have been, just another intersection with your normal hazards. This intersection is a fatality waiting to happen, not to mention the thosands of dollars of litigation that are sure to follow.
I invite any town official from the town of Manchester to take a ride with me through this intersection.

Any progress to report on this site line issue?

Sgt.Miner called and we discussed the problem. They are going to do some traffic monitoring and he also said the town engineers are aware of the problem and are trying to work out a solution. All parties are trying to determine if it is a speed problem or a site line problem or both.

I stopped by there yesterday. It looked like the weeds had been recently cut on the north side of Bush Hill, east of Miller Pond Road. I thought the site line from my Honda, which is kind of low, wasn't great. It's not as bad as some, because there certainly are some really bad blind spots on our hilly, forested roadways here in Connecticut. But yours certainly could be better and I don't blame any of you for seeking action.

I would imagine nobody is looking to have a traffic light installed, but a three-way stop might help solve the problem, no? Let me know what they have to say.

I live on Bush Hill Road and when this development was in the planning phase, this exact issue was brought up by residents at a public hearing held by the Planning and Zoning Commission. The highly paid consultant responded by saying "There is no sight line problem at this site." Maybe if the P&Z actually listened to residents and not consultants paid by developers, this issue could have been corrected. Now the taxpayers have to pay for the solution and not the developer. Way to go Manchester P&Z! Scary that these guys make the decisions in town.

You are absolutely right, that the issue was brought up by "concerned" neighbors. It was one of many issues. Unforturnately, most of the "concerns" were nonsense and were thrown in the stupid bucket. Perhaps this was inadvertantly thrown in the stupid bucket as well. The "not in my backyard "mentality of most of the neighbors, contributed to this issue getting overlooked. The members of the Planning and Zoning , I am sure were tired by the rediculousness of most of the comments. IE.....would jet skis be allowed in the pond? etc. etc etc. All the town would have had to do was concentrate on some serious complaints and the site line issue most likely would have been taken seriously and relocated. Now , you are right, the tax payers will pay , most likely for letting their own emotions dictate, rather than common sense. Most people must realize that everywhere they live, even Manhatten used to be a rural area at one time, and I am sure there was always at least one person that objected.

So what's the outcome? Are they talking about construction rather than adding 3 stop signs?

Thanks for asking. All they have done so far is to trim some bushes back. Does a little ,but not a lot. They have acknowledged that there is a problem, however, nothing was done. I heard the police department was going to run radar, but that is yet to happen. It was also supposedly being reviewed by the town engineers. How long that takes, I can only guess. For all I know it is only lip service. So to answer your question, they are not talking about anything. I guess when the town is found liable, if God forbid, there is a bad accident there, then maybe they will be forced to do something. It may be time to go to the State Department of Transportation..

I am a life long Bush Hill Road resident. I have been complaining about the speeding cars since I had my first child there 15 years ago.
I could never figure out how Buckland was able to get the sight lines approved for that road. The minimum sight requirements are dictated by the State of Connecticut. I think somebody missed something or fudged something. Those sight lines are the reason the old nursery further up will never get developed.
Stop signs are traffic control devices, not speed control or safety devices, and can be run. I think the town is going to have a huge expense re-grading that section to make it safe (as they did approve the road cut) before there is a major accident.
Also, the speed trailers they put there, don't work, my kids were riding by it on their bikes, at 17mph, and then it blinked up to 52mph as a mini van was passing them. When they put it in front of my house, all I heard were people accelerating past it. I watched a school bus go by at 47mph. They don't work unless the police department follows up with enforcement. Unfortunately, it will take another fatal accident for the town to act. The best solution now, install speed bumps like they have on Westerly Street, (off Hilliard). Or split Bush Hill into 2 streets by Bell Street, otherwise, Drive cautious and watch your kids.
