Would you please clarify whether the new sweeping policy is now to sweep BOTH sides of a street -- or only, as in the past, merely the side where signs are posted?
Thanks for writing. Yes we are scheduling both sides of every street sweeping route in the city. According to our schedule we swept one side on October 4 and will be back in Westville on Wednesday, October 14 for the second side. There are 15 street sweeping routes in the city and yes we are sweeping both sides of each route-barring holidays and always weather permitting. The remainder of street sweeping schedule is on our dpw pages on the city website- newhavenct.gov.
Thanks for the quick response. But to be clear: you'll be sweeping both sides of every street, but NOT on the SAME day? On two separate days? (So people will be able, as in the past, to park their cars on the side of the street where there are no signs?)
The confusion comes from how on August 31 in Westville, the so-called "Warning Ticket" day, the sweepers came down BOTH sides of all the neighboring streets, not just the side where signs were posted.
Thanks for your reply.
My concern is that Hemlock Road was not swept on either side October 4th. There were signs posted for sweeping on the odd side but it didn't happen. Our house is 47. Will there be a return for that, or do we have to wait for the next scheduled sweeping?
Thanks,
Meg B
Hi Don - Follow the paper posting. Yes we have scheduled two days in neighborhoods and each side will be a different day so you will be able to park on opposite side of street. Not sure what may have happened in August but going forward depend on postings.
Hi Meg- At this point in the season we aren't scheduling make up for holiday/missed/cars parked in way spots. Unfortunately even with ticketing, in many areas cars weren't moved so our sweepers had to go in and out around the parked cars. November presnow sweeping will be back-to-back in most routes/neighborhoods. Westville will be swept on November 30 and December 1.
We are closing older Street Sweeping issues from 2020 in order to focus on our upcoming street sweeping season 2022. Many of the older issues were addressed through our regularly scheduled street sweeping but never closed. If your Street Sweeping issue remains please open a new See Click Fix issue so we can make sure it is addressed. Thanks.

And a follow-up question for Public Works:
Would you please clarify whether the new sweeping policy is now to sweep BOTH sides of a street -- or only, as in the past, merely the side where signs are posted?

Just to be clear: Our street was clear of cars and ready for sweeping on the side where the signs were posted.
