We are aware of the problem and will continure to work the area (as call volume allows). It has also been suggested that the northbound turn lane have a "dedicated" left turn arrow instead of the current design allowing vehicles the "option" to yield to oncoming traffic.

Either put in dedicated left turn arrows in both directions or change the sequencing of the lights so that northbound traffic has a red light while southbound traffic coming out of the neighborhood can go straight onto Ashford Dunwoody or turn left or right onto Mt. Vernon unfettered. It is not uncommon to have 10-12 vehicles trying to leave the neighborhood at non rush hour times. I'll hazard a guess that there's more Dunwoody residents trying to get out of the neighborhood than there are trying to turn left from Ashford Dunwoody to go Westbound on Mount Vernon. Residents have priority in having a say so in what solution is implement. Let those merely passing through eat cake while stopped at their dedicated red light.

Let's see how much red tape it will take to make a simple, potentially life-saving change.

I know that the police really care about this because I am sure they get called to a good number of fender benders. I bet they will help push this issue. Thanks to our great PD.

There is currently a yield sign located at this intersection for left turning traffic. Possible dedicated turn lanes and signals are being considered by the Public Works Department. Thank you.

As a resident of Dunwoody West, I (and many of my neighbors) hope to see a dedicated arrow for those going westbound onto Mt. Vernon from Ashford Dunwoody. It is an extremely dangerous intersection with many aggressive drivers turning onto Mt.Vernon. Also, with a dedicated arrow, I believe it will cut down on our neighborhood cut- through traffic and ease the traffic backup for those turning onto Ashford Dunwoody. Thanks for helping us with this situation.

PD said that there is a sign at the light saying "yield to traffic" It certainly does not work. Maybe a stand alone sign on the northwest corner that say's "yield" would be seen better. Apparently no one looks up to see the existing sign. Bad intersection. About every time I go thru I know I will have to play chicken with the car trying to turn.

A work order is in place to have additional signage added to the mast arm at this intersection. Thank you for your patience while we address this.

Whatever work has been "completed" by the City of Dunwoody seems to have been a waste of time and ineffective. There are still too many vehicles trying to get out of the neighborhood on a signal cycle during non rush hour times. There are still too may Northbound Ashford Dunwoody Rd. drivers refusing to yield the right of way. As I wrote back in December, I believe dedicated left turn arrows in both directions or changing the sequencing of the lights so that northbound traffic has a red light while southbound traffic coming out of the neighborhood can go straight onto Ashford Dunwoody or turn left or right onto Mt. Vernon is the most effective solution. The only thing that will stop these unyielding left turners is a red light/red arrow. I suppose the city is too focused right now on finishing that treeless mess of a parkway to implement a real solution.

No further work is to be performed at this location to address the intersection. Necessary notification is in place for drivers from all directions. Possible enforcement may be requested if traffic laws are not being followed appropriately.

Sorry, but this reply smacks of pure bureaucratic BS. Has anyone from the city actually bothered to spend time over different days on the Dunwoody West side of the intersection to see how difficult it is to get out of our neighborhood? Perhaps it's time for Dunwoody West and The Branches residents to have a sit down talking' to our elected reps about this issue.

Great - I continue to see near crashed just about every day as I am sure all of my neighbors will attest to. Someone people going left just do not remember that they don't have the right away and the small sign does not seem to be large enough.

This issue is currently being looked into by a Public Works Inspector. Updates will come shortly.

This intersection has been observed on multiple occasions by Dunwoody Public Works and Police with regard to the reports of failure to yield and the timing of the light. The following actions have been taken by the city:

-Additional pavement marking has been added on Ashford Dunwoody to more clearly designate the lanes approaching the intersection.
-An additional sign instructing drivers on Ashford Dunwoody to yield to oncoming traffic has been added.
-The timing of the light has been checked on multiple occasions to verify that the length of the green light on Trailridge is adequate. It has been verified that 90% of the queue on Trailridge clears the light during the morning rush hour and all of the queue clears at other times of day. Signal timing is a balancing act and with the very heavy traffic volumes at this intersection it is not possible to clear 100% of the traffic 100% of the time.
-Enforcement of the left turn yield has been conducted by the police.
-The accident history for the intersection has been reviewed. While there have been many accidents at the intersection in the last 5 years very few have involved left turns from Trailridge or Ashford Dunwoody.

A protected left turn signal is not recommended at this location for two reasons:
1. It does not appear to be warranted based on the accident history.
2. The time provided for protected left turns (arrows) would have to be taken away from other phases of the signal cycle causing the signal to operate more inefficiently and making it more difficult to clear queues including those on Trailridge.

Just to clarify - the issue is the left turn as you are going North on Ashford Dunwoody turning west onto Mt. Vernon. Many of these people do not know that our neighborhood street has the right away to go straight before they turn. There usually is not a safety issue for turning left out of the neighborhood.
