There are rumors that that Prince Albert Police are planning a blitz on people who use their cell phones while driving. Well....first of all these same police need to do a blitz within their own organization. By that I mean the police are the worst offender of all. Have you ever followed a police car? How many times do you see the patrol cars doing rolling stop, going threw red lights, speeding, talking on their cell phones. Also how many times do you seen our off duty officers getting into a car to drive after they have had a few? I think that it is about time that they do a blitz of their own or are they just acting like this because they are above the law?

cell phones could be shut off.Set by example.Tinting car windows are illigal but yet 1 sargeant
and other police private cars you can not see driver hello. We can not smoke x amant of meters
from city propertys but city workers and police in city cars or trucks smoke they should be ticketed.
Ok thats it for now.Get a blits on these people also.

Police are on their cell phones usually for an important reason, maybe they are talking to 911 getting the address of where the accident is, or talking to someone who is in a domestic situation telling her to be calm and that he is on his way. You have to remember that police are emergency attendants. If we take away thier cell phones we could be taking away our life line to help. They have also had extra driving training unlike the 16 year olds that are on thier cell phones regularily. If all public drivers had gone through the extensive training that police have then we would be more safe doing these activities and therefore maybe the law would not have been made.
I do agree though when they arent attending to an emergency they should be abiding by the rules of the road. Complete stops and speeding etc, is not a necessity when they arent racing to an accident scene. I have also seen police flick on thier red and blues just to get through a traffic light and then they flick them off. That is purely taking advantage of thier authority.
Personally I feel police probably have a reason for doing what they are doing. I know there are some "bad cops" out their but I cant believe that all of them are. Give the police a little bit of a break you dont hear in the news "car accident caused by police on thier cell phones". They are the law, they enforce the law and it could be you that is on the line with an officers cell at the time of an accident.

Dear Ian, When did you get the ticket that @#$% you off?
- I agree that the police should not be above the law. (especially when intoxication is involved)
- The police service should be enforcing this law, but the police can only be in so many places at once.
- Maybe the heads up about a blitz will get people to put their phones down while driving, so that the roads become a safer place. (not likely without getting a ticket, but one could hope)
- Check your facts before you rant... info is easy to find on SGI's website.

Hey there Sam,
I have also seen the Police turn on their reds and blues to go through an intersection, and then turn them off once they are through it. I learned though that they do this to get through the intersection safely and then still able to sneak up on the call they are going to. I guess that makes sense. One person even said if the Police used their reds and blues to every call the went to, their lights would burn out often and send the city into fear! I guess thats why they have lots of tricks to catch the bad guys!!! LOL.
