Description
Everywhere you walk in the area near Clinton Avenue School you see mattresses, tires, ripped open garbage bags, leaf bags left on the streets and alley ways. Maybe some are planned bulk trash pickup BUT the stuff has been there for weeks. The longer it sits, the more other items get added on. My back alley looks out on responsible homeowners(on site) and renters. But the garbage and trash is encroaching on us. It is discouraging. If someone would walk the neighborhood with us you might get a sense of what we are up against. My Park Place alley falls between Dover and English. The mess I am looking at runs from Clinton Place and Park Place leading toward Atwater Street. I know that a Fair Haven Management Team meeting is planned for Thursday. I may not be available to ZOOM with you, I'm sure this is happening all over Fair Haven. Is the problem absentee landlords? Could someone let my husband and I know what the strategy for dealing with these challenges are. As lifelong residents of the city, and proud Fair Haveners-we want to see these problems addressed in every neighborhood of the Elm City, and the lovely village of Fair Haven.

It definitely take a village and you care enough to raise the questions. Thank You. We at dpw can make sure Trash and Recycling is picked up through your neighborhood plus make sure we respond to issues of illegal dumping when it occurs. But you are raising a quality of life issue which ALL city departments, all residents, all stakeholders in Fair Haven and throughout the city need to be involved.
Management Team Meetings are a good starting point in every neighborhood so Yes to your suggestion but a real strategy takes time and commitment from all. You along with others in your neighborhood may want to request that the city do a sweep of your specific area as they have over the past in various neighborhoods throughout the city.
It is great to hear such commitment and passion about your neighborhood and I would bet you'd find many others feel the same as well. Hopefully you'll be able to meet and plan with them as well.Thank for writing.
