Yes, I know what you mean. It's very, "Does a tree fall in the woods if there's no one there to vote on it?"
It's not as if the number of people who vote on an issue has any impact on how fast it gets fixed.

Closed is supposed to mean the issue has been dealt with, but lately we are seeing that it does not. Things that have not been fixes are getting closed. I don't know why this is happening.

"Closed" means that PW has passed on the request to the responsible agency, for example code compliance or Park Maintenance.

Hmmm…they are closing things like "bags of trash dumped on shoulder of road" that are still persistently there. That isn't something that is passed on to another agency.

I think sometimes the "locations" of illegally dumped stuff are not clear enough...my opinion.

Regan4now is correct about the "referral" step...there should be some follow-up by those of us who report issues. I found out LOTS more by calling Code Enforcement and speaking with a helpful staffer. Am watching my calendar for the date that I can call back and see how far the process has gone...

No, I don't think it's about the location not being clear, although that can be an issue. For example, the giant safe that was dumped was reported and closed many times before it was finally picked up. The location was very clear. Same thing with a couch I reported.

There seems to be a hierarchy of sorts regarding what is dumped. Mattresses, couches, furniture seem to be "different" from black trash bags. Paint cans are certainly NOT handled by the same personnel who pick up trash bags.

Would really appreciate it if someone can clarify this premise.

And city streets -vs- freeway/CalTrans property is another factor.

Someone mentioned that three different trucks came out to pick up various dumped items. Furniture, one truck, tires, another and so on. I get that chemical waste would go somewhere else, but is it really efficient to have multiple trucks go to one pile? Can't it be picked up and sorted?

I try to report things that I think are on CalTrans land directly to CalTrans, but I'm not always sure.

Eileen, you are very much doing "the right thing" by reporting the issues. This is not perfect system. Just keep on keeping on...
