Description

Signs displaying "no parking", "park closed at dusk" and "no trespassing" were erected some time ago as a knee jerk reaction to vocal neighbors who didn't like skateboarders using the park. Since then, the skate park has moved, and the park is (still) in use at night. The signs conflict with city code 26-397, which allow a lighted facility to be used until 10:30 PM. The no parking part is vague and unenforceable by police without any standard "no parking" signs. The "no trespassing" part somehow increases the penally for using the lighted park from a class 4 misdemeanor to a class 1 misdemeanor, which is a jail-able offense under Virginia code 18.2-119. Last night, I saw a youth football game under the lights. Everyone there was in peril of being jailed and their cars being towed. These signs need to go.
