I was trying to commute using the Neuse River Greenway to my work on the NCSU campus, but this bridge across the Neuse near the Mial Plantation parking area was impassable. My (legal for greenways) tricycle was too wide to pass through the car blocking posts. The federal spec for these is 5 feet post to post. Most of the newer Wake County greenways are built this way. I can easily pass between 4 ft posts so these must be closer to 3ft. That is close enough to cause real trouble if two bicycles try to go together between them (5 feet is not). Since I cannot use this bridge, I must go out on Shotwell Rd, and Old Baucom which have significant traffic.

No acknowledgment yet. I see that this is part of the Raleigh Parks System.
I have learned that the problem spot is called the Terragator Bridge. in Segment 8.
It would be wonderful to have this bridge passable when they start working on the lower Beltline. Then I won't be out on the main roads slowing everyone down or getting knocked down.
The width is non-standard as is probably the narrowest I have seen in the system.
I suppose the posts could be locked flat and that would solve it.

Mr. Ross,
As a former employee of the Town of Clayton, I can tell you that most Town's do not participate in the SeeClickFix app. Which is a shame because it could be a useful tool. It apparently costs for municipalities to monitor and most issues are not reported to the correct people anyway (DOT being confused with locally maintained roads, etc). Anyway, my point is this...I doubt anyone from Raleigh is actually even seeing this. May I suggest that you contact the Raleigh Parks Dept, Raleigh Planning Dept, and finally, if needed the Raleigh City Manager and Mayor's office. Good luck and I hope someone helps you!

Yes, I know. I figure if I am patient it may land on someones desk someday. I tried to find who is really in charge of this. Looking at the Neuse Greenway Maps doesn't give me any hint who cares for that section and has some jurisdiction over it.
It is really a shame though - if they had simply followed the national standard for bollard spacing on greenways it would be just fine. My guess is someone used a small four wheeler as a model for the spacing, not knowing there are some pedal operated machines that are that size.
